Well, the #debian vote was very disappointing. Will someone fork an AI-free version, or is everyone scattering to the four winds?

@Sablebadger@dice.camp I have a transmasc 16-year-old, who is also mildly autistic. Lots to figure out. The best you can do it take it one day at a time, and listen closely on the occasions they're willing to talk to you.

Hey, everyone, as I've mentioned a time or two, I'm in geo.coop. My big project is running our paper journal. The second edition will be coming out in the very near future. This time around, the topic is union worker co-ops. If you're interested in either unions or co-ops, and especially if you're interested in both, then I invite you to become a supporter: https://geo.coop/geo-journal #geo#unions#cooperative#workercoop@Matt_Noyes@social.coop@GuerillaOntologist@social.coop@geosocialcoop@social.coop

@Lana@beige.party This is it, exactly. People think AI will reach self-awareness, but that assumes that it can truly learn, which is to say, it can refine and develop its knowledge---but it can't. The quality of its output is less than the quality of its input, and no volume of inputs will change that.

@JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange "Simple" is relative. But, I'd guess that if you really wanted to find out how they worked, you eventually would. If you tried and failed because the information was proprietary, that's a separate issue. "Simple" is relative, but "transparent" is not.

Replying to
@cap_ybarra@beige.party This certainly is true, but I cling to the hope that we can make more people understand it. When you make excuses for unacceptable behavior, you get more of it, and eventually, you end up with someone like Trump, who wouldn't know a moral compass if you hit him on the head with one. We need a fresh start based on honesty, transparency, and community spirit. It's time to reinvent the US from the ground up, with far less materialism and far more inclusion.

@cap_ybarra@beige.party This completely amazes me, and it totally demolishes any pretense the GOP ever had of having Christian values, American principles, or common decency. The only things the Republican Party cares about are money and power. That's it. That's the complete list.

@oblomov@sociale.network ocrmypdf works great, or at least as well as anything else does on a scanned document. But, it can only "see" the text itself, not the format. And even then, the text isn't necessarily in the order that it appears in on the page.

On a combined toaster oven/air fryer, are the toaster-oven and air-frier settings really all that different?

@mcspocky@mstdn.party We should not consider the 25th Amendment a viable solution. It assumes far too much independence and critical thought on the part of the Vice President and Cabinet. If they were concerned with the rule of law, they wouldn't have made it into Trump's inner circle in the first place.
