"I could not remember when the lines above Atticus’s moving finger separated into words, but I had stared at them all the evenings in my memory, listening to the news of the day, Bills to Be Enacted into Laws, the diaries of Lorenzo Dow—anything Atticus happened to be reading when I crawled into his lap every night. Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing." Scout, To Kill A Mockingbird
Are they kidding with this right now?
They are marketing this animnated film with a dead horse tie in?
BOYCOTT this film and company and Seth Rogan.
When Hands Helping Paws Project was being incubated (before it was born) there was a core idea of what we wanted to be and do:
Help responsible pet owners with unexpected cost of care for their pets.
Today we will be asking for you to help us do just that and do it for a pet owner who is the most-deserving we have helped.
Gort’s story - Gort is now a 6 month old, 13c pound French Bulldog who has had a very rough start. Gort was born with a cleft palate which meant he could not nurse. But instead of looking for help when he was born his less then responsible breeder let him languish for 3 days - getting no nutrition.
In comes Amy, Gort’s mom. Amy has had him since he was 3 days old - and he weighed JUST 6 ounces when he arrived. He only survived because of the excellent care provided by Amy and her vet. Gort was tube-fed every 2 hours for months. You see cleft palate puppies cannot be bottle fed - they go from extended tube feeding to hard food - so they must be at least 5 weeks old and have teeth.
Shortly after Gort came to Amy they realized he is also hydrocephalic which means he has to be on a cocktail of medications and watched very closely.
That's 2 strikes - but not the end. Strike 3 is that Gort was BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome), This means he literally cannot breathe properly. At times he needs to be put on oxygen to keep him alive!
Strike 3 is why we are here. Gort desperately needs a surgery to cut his elongated palate and Laryngeal saccules as well as widen his nostrils. The hydrocephalus exacerbates the breathing problems.
Gort struggles with breathing at times and will only get worse as the weather gets warmer.
This surgery must be done by an experienced specialist and due to Gort’s complex medical situation will most definitely be at the high end of the $6500.00-$8500.00 range.

I found this useful, especially with a new doctor or office APRN.
How to be a patient:
Be prepared with specific topics or questions you want to discuss with your doctor to gain clarity within your appointment time. 2. Research Before the Visit
Gather information about your condition or symptoms before seeing your doctor, so you're prepared to discuss and ask informed questions. 3. Use Reputable Sources for Research
Look for information on well-respected sites like The Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Harvard Health, or Johns Hopkins University. 4. Use Google Wisely
Navigate information online by sticking to credible sources and avoiding misinformation. 5. Determine Your Information Needs
Know what you want to achieve from the visit and what you want to get out of your healthcare, and steer the conversation accordingly. 6. Connect with Others with the Same Condition
Join support groups or follow social media accounts to gain insights from others with your specific diagnosis. 7. Take Specific Questions or Concerns to Your Doctor
Have a concise list of targeted questions or concerns to make the most out of your appointment. 8. Consider Finding a New Doctor if Needed
Don’t settle for a healthcare provider who dismisses your concerns or fails to consider your opinions. 9. Be an Active Participant in Your Healthcare
Engage in research, planning, and effective communication to have a more personalized and satisfying healthcare experience.
I have to share just because it's so unlike me to have food go bad. This was in 2018 but I saved the photo as evidence.
The container had fallen behind a drawer in the fridge.
What color is parmesan supposed to be, again?
