Something professional for a long time, now I take photographs.
A bit techie, somewhat political, rather English.
I started on another instance which ceased to be comfortable.

@Nonilex@masto.ai I know little of American medicine but we were encouraged (pressed, threatened) to do reflective writing which was supposed to be of some value to us, and assist us in an annual discussion with a colleague as an assessor. It sounds as though something similar may have happened there, and Randpaul is doing his best to make evil out of honest thought.

@Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social Near Earth space, cis-lunar space, translunar space, interplanetary space, solar space, Oort Cloud. Interstellar space is a lot further away. One of the Apollo Saturn 3rd stages was deliberately targeted on the Moon, so as to make vibrations for the seismometers left by previous missions. I forget which one it was. Then we knew more about the Moon's internal structure, which is probably worth a crater. It doesn't seem impossible that doing it again might tell us yet more.

@librarysquirrel@sunny.garden @davidgerard@circumstances.run The key thing is the sea is wet, and so is anything that goes there. However... cooling is easy, and the waves and motion can be abolished by submerging, and used atop to power generators, a rather easier prospect than replenish8ng at sea with liquid Methane, I think.

@AkaSci@fosstodon.org It did occur to me that answering a question the second time should be very cheap, if you can just remember what it was and the answer. And that scales down, unless there are an unlimited number of real discrete monolithic questions.

If there were notional children0 they grew up into world1 not into the world3 that children2 are heading towards. And world3 already seems to have substantial differences from previous ones.

@MissConstrue@mefi.social An improvement. Will help thinking. #Syndromes are difficult, not least because they are not really "a condition". They are unusual collections of symptoms - which might individually be experienced by many - signs and perhaps measurable chemistry, which taken together suggest a whole which is usefully managed, treated, regarded, in ways which tend to benefit quite a few of the people that diagnostic cloud is pinned onto. Unpacking it to, say, 3 diseases, will make it easy.

We have a very good endocrine/metabolic unit up the road, and that's been associated with an improving 7nderstsnding of how things work. We are not, of course, in the USA where the onslaught on understanding by fools, cynics, and criminals, is adding difficulty to everything. We also have a functioning health service, which clearly America doesn't want to have, nor ours to continue. Alas.

The Martian atmosphere, thin though it is, thins out slower than ours as you go outward, under the smaller gravity. So the distance for light etc to be affected is at least further than one might expect. I'm told that is one of several problems for meteors and spacecraft.

I think "dependency" is a sub-optimal word for discussions of this. Addictive potential might be better. Plenty of medications are extremely useful but have addictive potential. Opioids and opiates for instance, as well as the Amphetamine-like ADHD medications.

@liztai@hachyderm.io A retelling of the oldest written story in Western culture. Appropriation is one thing, but Greek culture, via Rome, and having blocked Persia, is the root from which much of our culture grew, I think. And language. I don't see why "200" years though, I'd call it a 6000 year descent. That the leaves should influence the roots doesn't seem wholly surprising.

  1. When Penicillin was new (a while after nitrogen fixation by heat and pressure) it was scarce and was recovered from patients' urine. To aid this, soldiers were ordered not to drink beer while taking it. This has survived into legend as a poorly-based general prohibition.

Point: unless it is something beer contains or produces, it is easier to get it back from a smaller volume of p.

The Spanish health secretary had been describing a separate case involving a person who was not confirmed to have hantavirus, not the French woman who had tested positive after evacuation from the ship."
