@scotlit@mastodon.scot Honestly him and Jim Steward steered me away from becoming part of the alt-right before it was called that. Reading Books that imagine a society that isn't just another rehash of liberal democracy or dystopian corporate hellscape is sorely missed.

Vielleicht Rostock-Lichtenhagen?

@fraca7 @mhoye Reminds me of the Card/Krueger Study on minimum wage that concluded that raising the min-wage was good. They got so much hate for a now widely accepted study and to this day free-market "economists" try to debunk it. Or as John Kenneth Galbraith put it: “Economics is extremely useful as a form of employment for economists.”

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Reminds me of that "Writers who don't read books" Discourse on Twitter and Booktok where people unironically went asking to read is ableist. I lost a part that still believed in humans that i didn't knew i had.

@Elizafox@social.treehouse.systems @thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz I wish people read and understood Cyberpunk novels instead of liking the aesthetics of them. William Gibson was scathing in his critique of Capitalism. “And, for an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human.” ― William Gibson, Count Zero

@MisuseCase@twit.social @jackofalltrades@mas.to Nuclear is only ever pushed by people that want to slow down renewables. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/08/26/swedish-government-removes-nuclear-power-promise-website/ The Swedish right wing goverment promised 10 new nuclear pwoerplants and cutting renewables. Whats left of that promise is cutting the renewables. I am wating for the nuclear renaissance since 2004. First Thorium Reactors now SMR. The Nuclear Industry Overpromises and underdelivers and that not mentioning this: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/23/russia-dominates-global-nuclear-reactor-and-fuel-supply-chains.html

@MisuseCase@twit.social @jackofalltrades@mas.to Sorry if that sounded rude but thats what nuclear ends up doing. It soaks up investment in renewables. Nuscale SMR: "The milestone is the direct result of more than $400 million in funding by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) since 2014 to accelerate the development and deployment of SMRs." A Reactor that still is over budget and behind schedule. Nuclear isnt underfunded. It got Billions over half a century with nary anything to show for it.

@jackofalltrades@mas.to @MisuseCase@twit.social A stonetoss Comic? Seriously? Anyway about China: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_in_China#Future_projects "In 2018, a Nuclear Engineering International journal analysis suggests a below-plan capacity of 90 GWe is plausible for 2030." Meanwhile around 200 GW of renewable capacity, according to Caroline Zhu, senior analyst with S&P Global Commodity Insights and thats for 2023 alone. China planned and failed to come near its 200GW Plan for 2035. Like its said overpromised underdelivered.
