According to the rector decision in my university, the university library will put all research articles under CC license and making it publicly available regardless of the journal!
This is an amazing news that promotes better research practices imho. I'm super glad that my university is taking these measures towards open and accessible science.

98% of Iranians haven't had access to the global #internet for almost 1500 hours. #Iran gov has started a tiered-internet scheme to sell global internet. In this short thread I'm trying to explain why this is bad and how the world, especially left-leaning are reacting to this

I have been observing the #SailfishOS and @jolla@techhub.social community for some weeks. It is "interesting" how they are treating newcomers [1,2]. There are way more examples, but well, character limits🤷
This is the textbook definition of gatekeeping. What they should do instead is to create a hashtag or something, so that new-comers tag themselves and gray-beards with zero tolerance can block that hashtag. Instead it is turning into reverse trolling.
Now that we covered and clarified all these prerequisites to understand the situation on the ground, let's digest what it means:
If at some point teachers are protesting or having a union strike, #Iran government will be able to specifically target this particular group and cut all their accesses. This means that
- There will be benign strikes or no strike at all and gov will be happy
- The effect of the strikes will be very very minor, and gov and society will not get affected

it is really important to show that Iranians and Iranian citizens' associations are continuing to coordinate and prefer to refuse tiered access rather than accept it as a temporary compromise.
I completely agree with you on this. This is what I have been applauding for the past few days. Not accepting the terms if the hand that is dealt to them. Those who have refused have chosen to remain in the blackout and resist this nonsense, rather than short-time "gratification" @NyxKai @rysiek
@jolla Pienimäki stated:
There are not more than four mobile operating systems in the world. Two Americans, Chinese Huawei and then there is Jollan Sailfish OS
Well, let's list few more for sake of completeness:
- @postmarketOS
- @ubports
- Manjaro
I think he meant to say "there are no more than 4 closed sourced proprietary mobile OSs". Then the statement would be accurate.
Is it actually the Ministry of ICT who controls the key internet nodes in a practical sense, not the Supreme National Security Council (of which Pezeshkian is a member)?
Few things to clarify here:
-
Pezeshkian is the Chairman of the council. Not just a member, the Chairman!
-
The council decides something, but it is the ministry that executes the blackout. The "if" is decided by the council, the "how" and to some extent "when" is planned by the ministry.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_National_Security_Council
Pezeshkianists siding with ordinary Iranians
I wonder how you got to that conclusion? Because Pezeshkian is the one who publicly stated that he will resign if he cannot fulfill his promises. Not only he hasn't fulfilled what he promised, he legitimized the massacre in January 2026, and never condemned. He became president with all-time low votes every recorded in Iran. He is part of the problem. Him and all those who advocated for him during the election.

A question for all #Guix folks on fedi: is there a way to make building the derivations faster? The machine I use has 20 cores, and only one of them is used 100% and the rest are usually around 7-8%.
There are many things that needs updating on my machine (including guix, pacman, flatpak, Emacs packages, ...) and by far Guix is the slowest despite having:
```sh
guix upgrade --cores=$(nproc --ignore 1)
```
@amici I'm afraid you are very wrong. Here are some facts that you have overlooked as far as I can tell:
-
Iran launched "National Internet" some years ago, meaning the local banks, local websites, local emails, local messaging, ... and etc. works normally and without interruption (and of course under surveillance of the gov).
-
The issue of internet blackout is that people will have no source to news other than what gov is feeding them. This is the real problem.
@paniash@mstdn.social These are the keyboards I use regularly with my devices that have Emacs on them:
- normal 100% keyboard ISO Nordic layout
- Lenovo laptop ISO Nordic layout
- MacBook ANSI layout
The only things I've changed in all of them is mapping CapsLock to Ctrl
most of Sailfish OS is already open sourced
This is not factual as far as I can see. Please refer to the official webpage:
@amici I don't know, maybe I'm too much of a computer nerd, but I feel that:
-
The printed media does not have enough reach
-
Easy to track distributors (finger print, printer yellow dots,...)
-
Expensive to produce/dustribute
Compare this, for example, withPGP encrypted email or blog/forum on an .onion domain

@shepherd@fosstodon.org Do I understand correctly that you are suggesting that I should also set the --max-jobs CLI flag in guix upgrade?
@Antti98@mastodon.social I just managed to find some time to go through the tabs on my computer 😅 I'll just add two links to add to the topic:
- in 2015 @jolla@techhub.social stated this:
Our goal with the #SailfishOS is to develop an open source operating system in co-operation with the community,
Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20150101044101/https://sailfishos.org/about-license.html
- Today they have this instead:
It is the only open source based and independent mobile OS without any ties to big corporations
along with this figure
Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20260713072855/https://sailfishos.org/info/
basically whole core is open source
Well, the whole core is Linux and Linux utils. Nothing that Jolla have developed themselves. These are already on 99+% of all linux desktop and laptops and has nothing to do with #SailfishOS nor #Jolla.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe even legally Jolla cannot even make them not OpenSource due to the licensing of these software.
As far as I understand, Jolla's Browser and Office are the only things that Jolla voluntarily have OpenSourced.
