@ishambard@cupoftea.social That can be so frustrating. I have had similar things happen and every time I have to remind myself that I should expect these things because the Steam Deck is a computer... not a game system... Even though it REALLY looks like a game system. 😂

I wondered what was going on. My shipment was on hold and they mentioned something about the SD card but I just assumed it was a bad batch, I didn't realize it had a virus.
I have an old bluesky account that I seldom use. I logged in this morning and was faced with an age verification page.
I always use a VPN and it thought I was in Texas so I disabled it and, living in Oklahoma, I was able to get right in with no age verification... For now...
So, it looks like if you live in Texas this is a sign of things to come and something many more of us will probably have to deal with in the future.
I'm not sharing my associated Google account nor am I going to use their "trusted" partner KWS.
Fortunately they let you delete your account through email without having to age verify.

Yesterday I got a classic #SonicTheHedgehog chip tune stuck in my head. I knew it was from either the first or second game. My kids were also familiar with it but we could not remember which stage it was from.
We qued up the sound tracks on YouTube and made our way through each of the stages songs and came up empty handed.
We were baffled. We all knew the song and knew that it was from either Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 but none of the stages played it.
Long story short, It turns out that it was Emerald Hill Zone from Sonic 2 but in two player mode.
All of these years I don't know that it ever registered in my brain that Sonic 2 actually has a separate soundtrack for the two player stages!?!?
That is really cool and a bit wild that it never registered with me on a conscious level.

I don't think it's possible to ever get tired of tech demos.
Okay... I'm no mathematician & barely understand the difference between letters & numbers but after looking over a few charts that cover the last year, it depressingly looks like:
RAM prices are up 400%
SSD prices are up 125%
HDD prices are up 25%
Micro / SD card prices are up 150%
Processor prices are expected to start their climb.
What's next? I would like to be ahead of the game. I already sold one kidney last year for a graphics card. I really don't want to sell my other.
After upgrading my #Android phone a while back, I decided to take the old phone (Pixel 6) and backup all my photos, videos etc.
As I am copying them to my computer I was having a hard time finding where the voice recordings were located.
I take a LOT of voice recordings & haven't backed them up in years.
After doing a bit of reading it sounds like #Google sealed them off and you have to have root access unless you share them online.
WTF?!
#PocketPC would never do this to me.

Really, at the time, there was nothing special about it. It's just a well-framed photo with a bunch of newspaper vending machines. Or whatever those things are called...
Only in hindsight, do these things become a time capsule. What was once mundane now evokes a sense of curiosity and nostalgia.
There are many things like this that have passed me by that I wish I had the foresight to have taken pictures of.

@in_sympathy @maxalmonte14 I'm not sure that I would quite go that far but I do feel like decent mid-spec PCs could be pushed up to a price point that the general population would not be able to afford.
Similar to how PC stuff was back in the '80s. Very few people had high end machines because it was prohibitively expensive.
I'm trying to figure out exactly what PC/ electronic stuff I might potentially need for the next four years.
I'm thinking of it as an investment rather than a splurge.

Once it's over, it's not like these assembly lines are just going to fire right back up and start making these products. It will still be a long process...

The news of #Fox purchasing #Roku is quite depressing.
Apparently its #FoxCorp, the Fox News arm. At first I thought perhaps it was being brought under the #Disney owned arm of Fox but that's not the case.
This regime has all the big social media sites under their thumb. Their allies have purchased #CBS and now Roku. They have owned #Tubi for years.
They are stripping funding and punishing networks with dissenting viewpoints like #NPR and #PBS and #ABC
Time to disconnect my Roku TV from the network. Their not gonna get jack shit from me.
I'm not going to feed this machine.
I have had a media PC hooked up to the TV for the last couple of years and seldom used the TVs apps anyway. The PC is a much better experience.
I will certainly miss the TV guide though for OTA TV.

I have the complete collection that's bound into one thick volume. It was on sale for a decent price when I came across it but of course it's missing all of the beautiful covers that these books have.
It also makes it kind of a pain to read because it's so thick.
I think the individual volumes like this are definitely the way to go.

I loved it so much that I actually made some custom wallpaper for my #PocketPC.

Fridge Fury looks really cool too but even though it's just the intro, I think El Viento is my favorite. I've always loved the art design in that game and it's so cool to see that on the Master System!

I love how so much of it is hooked up but also has room to breathe. It's not overly crowded like some setups are. The continuous paper printout up on the wall is also a nice touch.
The only fail that I see is the Atari ST is currently up on the shelf instead of hooked up to a monitor. 😉

So many frustrating moments on that segment of the game.
So, it has some devious design choices. It is a brutally tough game.

@nazokiyoubinbou 😂 I would love to keep going but I will concede that it is possibly, technically, critically not a great game.
However, I really have always enjoyed the game. Even as a kid as frustrating as it could be, I also found it very rewarding.
I really liked the fact that each one of the turtles were very distinct in how they played. Much more so than in the arcade game & coupled with the overworld it always felt like a TMNT action RPG to me and I loved that.

Granted, it's not 100% accurate. I think the website said something like 97%, iirc. So maybe there's a bit of hope you have an original? 🤞

The game that he shows that he's working on near the end of the video looks really really good!

I have it on the Commodore 64 and in one of the sewers there's a platform that's one block just too far away. It's like no one playtested the game.

The underwater level at the dam where you have to defuse the bombs is quite a challenge but it's totally doable.
This was one of those games where I would play it a little bit everyday and I would slowly learn, get better and get further.

I honestly can't remember how much my system has. I know all of the slots are full. It's been some time since I've had the space to actually break it out and play around with it though

@nazokiyoubinbou @scribblemacher I grew up with Castlevania 2 and loved it. Beat it many times as a kid but looking back I can understand some of the hate. The translation is lackluster & not very helpful and some of the puzzles are completely obtuse.
I probably never would have beaten it if not for Nintendo Power.
Aside from the translation & some of the cryptic puzzles however, it was a ton of fun. Great graphics, great music, fun gameplay & an atmosphere like no other game at the time.
