@SnoopJ@hachyderm.io @cstross@wandering.shop good to hear: the Scots are generally awesome with rugby and football and I say that as an Englishman. The problem the English fanbase has is that, having won it once, too many believe with a jingoistic arrogance that they're destined to win it again; Scots'll give their all, have fun but largely remember it's just a game and don't seem to have that problem. Cheer on anyone against England and they will love you. Anyone running a bar showing the games could just put "Croatia vs England Scotland fans: You know what to do" On a blackboard and you'd basically have an embassy.

@alienghic@timeloop.cafe @jameshowell@fediscience.org Seen some recent cases, but only just saw confirmation this was the same. In my UK experience, Unis switched to remote-hosted services to cut costs in response to continual reductions in government support. Not sure there's much money left for a ransom to come from at some institutions.

RE: @independent@flipboard.com

"Additionally, the UK pledged to remove tariffs on 1.4 billion litres of ethanol, used to produce beer, which comes from the US."

…I think the yeast is meant to produce that in situ from sugar.
Proof that a lot of UK "beer" is absolute crap.

@Canageek that makes sense with what I've heard/seen. A lot of UK Nitrokeg lagers are 4% ABV, but to reduce transportation costs are either brewed under licence or concentrated/reconstituted. The latter approach may well use such ethanol solutions.

Not the time for witticisms; nor any insight to give other than, "heck, all you non-white, non-Anglophone, sexual minority, neurodiverse and/or technologically aware people on here saw this shit coming before white Christendom opened its eyes, not to wake up but double down…
…which you also predicted, at that".

That said, the UK, having been through 250 years of divorces resulting from mistreating others, was only ever going to be doomed to cataclysmic rebounds…

Microwaves? Interesting tech but what about the consequences?

Tinned chocolate pudding spending by rival militaries is about to go through the roof.
Fire engines will be conscripted in defence.
Steel cutlery will be recycled maliciously.

RE: @independent@flipboard.com

"“The idea of a special relationship we should now completely forget. It’s a transactional relationship with Washington as with every other country,” [Lord Ricketts] told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme."

---

Was it not always so, given Republican economic strategy and Democrat sympathies with Ireland (which was abused by the UK for centuries)

Generally speaking, if a relationship partner leaves you, 250 years is a long time to refuse to stop trying to cosy up.

Special like a food chain.
