#ClimateDiary “Above is a fictional weather forecast for August 18, 2050, broadcast by French television in 2014, intended to warn against the disastrous consequences of global warming.
Below is the weather forecast for June 22, 2026.”
(By @jakubwiech@bird.makeup on unmentionable)
This brings out super starkly how #ClimateChange has accelerated so much more quickly than we thought even just 12 years ago.

Bloody Hope! Hope again! I am so sick of hope. Didn’t like it as s message in climate activism (we need hope); didn’t particularly like it as a slogan for Greens; and now like it even less that it’s been stolen by Labour (like so much else in Burnham’s speech). It’s completely meaningless and crap. Also: what a phenomenal admission of failure, for a governing party!

I joined the #GreenParty Regents Park canvassing team on Monday for #ZackPolanski campaign in #holbornandstpancras - great to meet so many committed young Greens! I wanted to go again today but sadly ill. Sending everyone out canvassing and leafletting these last few days all the very best.
And voters: go for Green! Everything nice about Burnham/Labour now comes from Green pressure. More pressure = better government.

#ClimateDiary I watched my village disappear in an instant.
“When I finally reached someone — an elder brother’s house — it was his wife who answered. “There’s nothing left in the village,” she said simply. “Most of the people are gone.”
I couldn’t make myself believe it. Sole and Tupche sit nearly a hundred metres above the riverbed. No flood in living memory — in centuries, as far as anyone knew — had ever reached that high.” #Nepal #Glacier

#ClimateDiary #DystopiaDiary Anyone else finding it quite hard just to, like, make it through the day? The UK government is now telling us to stock up because of Godzilla ElNino kicking off in autumn. 2026 has already been horrific, bleak and scary - wildfires, heatwave, drought, #Nepal 💔😢 and all. Meanwhile feels like huge financial crash and a lot more war coming soon too. Not to mention AI dystopia. Plus personal #Precarity for so many of us, worry every day. Like, how are you all coping?

#FollowTheMoney 🧵 101/n Sitting in pub garden after Eastbourne #GreenParty meeting this Thursday, Rachael said to me:
“I just want to make a living”.
I suddenly realised that this one sentence contains everything I have been trying to say here in the days before, and indeed throughout this 🧵.
We want a world in which everybody can make a living, not one in which a few can make a killing.

#ClimateDiary The Times today, Saturday 25th July. Sums up this moment perfectly: the world is on fire, but the right and supporting media relentlessly push through their anti #NetZero agenda. I wonder whether extreme weather events this year and next - climate emergency in full swing! - will make any difference to current policy momentum. I fear not. But who knows. Burnham on #Rosebank will be indicative.

#ClimateDiary my sister sharing this video of a tornado over the Bodensee. Ads for air conditioners everywhere (and of course the wider #ACDebate). England - DR Congo playing in 35°C in Atlanta. Every Teams call starting with a conversation about heat. 1000s extra deaths. It is all everywhere, and yet it STILL feels like everyone’s main objective is to keep going as if everything is fine, everything is normal.

All that footage where you see people running as fast as they can and then being completely engulfed.. just awful. Also, of course, the injustice of it all, striking there. #ClimateJustice

Thinking about that list of river names, so full of European history and meaning for so many of us. They really ARE us, sources of life, shaping all that Europe is.
This brings home how vital #RightsOfNature, giving rivers rights, really are. Loire almost there- hope it happens for all, v soon.

So with our piece finally out, it’s time to put regenerative anthropology into practice: bring the insights of anthropology not just to the #TransitionMovement or #ClimateAction but to everything you do, everyone around you. I will be posting about this along the way - but everyone, please chip in, ask questions, give me ideas of what I could do next, and please use the hashtag if you feel like it! 💚1/3

#RegenerativeAnthropology OK so for the next four days I will share some (visually highly sophisticated! Don’t laugh!) images to illustrate what #RegenerativeAnthropology can mean. Today is about WHAT we hope to help regenerate:
A)The world (modest, I know!). Contribute to regeneration, (re)finding pathways to regenerating the world we live in
B) Anthropology itself, and higher education as a whole, is in dire straights - we need to change, regenerate so much here 1/3

#FollowTheMoney 🧵 97/n As Gary says again and again: the only way out of this is #WealthTax. Governments have to address massive inequality not just for everyone’s wellbeing, but also to regain some power.
And we need to bring all those assets now owned by the wealthy (water, energy, education, everything) back into public ownership. As the rich have long known: it is ALL about who controls assets.

#RegenerativeAnthropology
Teaching is a prime site for practicing and thinking through what #RegenerativeAnthropology might look like. For us, #RegenerativePedagogy has to be about the whole person, and include critique, practice and wisdom.
A) Critique. Fostering critical thinking is the mainstay of anthropology and university teaching as a whole, and indeed, it is more vital than ever: the world needs people who question the status quo and understand power. 1/n

#FollowTheMoney 🧵 98/n In my attempts to launch #RegenerativeAnthropology a bit, i am interacting with so many amazing, creative, brilliant people working in #Regeneration. It is nourishing, exciting, inspiring. But all of us, all of us, are scrambling around for sources of funding all the time. So little money in these spaces! This has made me think again about how money doesn’t go towards life, it goes towards death, dead things.
Or, to put it differently:

#ClimateDiary 1/3 Awful wildfire deaths in Spain, especially somehow when you read that if they had stayed at home, they would have been ok. Also, whilst the usual focus on “your own” in this article (four Brits amongst dead) is annoying, nevertheless I can imagine that not being familiar with an area makes you even more vulnerable, and the whole experience terrifying in different ways. Reading the second piece, by a long term British resident, really bring this out:

Residents of Collins First Nation (Namaygoosisagagun), a remote Ontario community without road access, more than 200 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, were forced to self-evacuate earlier this week in advance of fast-moving fires. They received no warning to evacuate.
A reminder that Mark Carney eliminated the national ‘Weatheradio’ service. The network of 200+ stations provided 24-hour current conditions, forecasts, and evacuation warnings, on a continuous loop.
