@dansup@mastodon.social it makes sense for community to influence what i see on my feed ie. an algorithm-based selection. It's a slippery slope though. Especially as the community grows and becomes more 'diverse'. What about a more granular personal filtering approach? So i could determine myself (clientside) exactly what's worth viewing and whats not? Eg. All posts with > 3 boosts AND the hashtag #privacy NOT posted by @-badactor etc. PS: your approach is interesting 👍

There's a beauty to creating your own personalized feed from scratch. I understand this. However, it takes time, energy and expertise. For a poweruser it'll be obvious and natural. This engenders an element of the 'curse of knowledge' though imo. Where users assume knowledge and skill on behalf of others. I want the community to be my algorithm

One after the other. Is there room for improvement in the algorithm? I feel that labelling users who voluntarily provide feedback - as 'jackholes', is unnecessary. ( with all due respect ;-) ) My 2 cents.

Eg. Why Masto is important to users? What part has it played in their personal journey? How did they hear about the platform?

Let's put featured user stories - front and centre. People engage with people. People listen to stories.

@molly0xfff completely agree. People who suffer from anxiety, for some reason, end up addicted to feeling anxious. It's a hyper-stimulation effect imo. A concept exploited time-and-time again by the #socialnetworks. Eg. if you display signs of #bodydysmorphia on IG. You'll receive 3 times the number of posts triggering this disorder compared to someone who doesn't. This drives engagement and screen time by these users / victims. In general terms, the name given is: #snapchatdysmorphia

Part of being in a community means you surrender some control and allow that community to make some decisions on your behalf. For the greater good. Segmenting users into filter bubbles algorithmically on SM has had a negative impact on society. And is a tool of manipulation. How about a feed filter though? Eg. Only show posts on my feed that have received some engagement etc.
