If we just witnessed The Art of the Deal, it certainly explains why we can’t celebrate it with a Trump Steak while toasting with a Trump Vodka.

@Lizette603_23 The irony of Trump being the best catalyst of a green revolution is still hard to fathom!

@dkmackinnon@ottawa.place What a weird concept to finally realize at this stage of the game! Imagine if every product out there was only designed or optimized for the people in between the end user?

@c_9@mstdn.ca Free electricity would be great, but I’d even be happy with the elimination of TOU pricing. Imagine affordable electricity, when you’re awake, and actually need to use it. That’s where solar/wind power really looks appealing to me.

@SeanCasten Lots of great points within that article: “Uncertainty is problematic in the oil and gas business, and this administration is the definition of uncertainty. I expect to see material demand destruction come over the longer term as many societies will come to see hydrocarbons as no longer a certainty in a future of increased energy requirement.”

@StaceyCornelius@zeroes.ca I recently changed the video cable on a similar model, and my rationale for going ahead with this despite any experience, boiled down to: the local shop wouldn’t touch it because of the inherent risk in breaking the screen, and FB marketplace had multiple choices for a cost-effective replacement. I’m proud to say my repair job was successful, and hopefully yours is too!

@EricLawton I love how the system we have leaves a huge gray area between “sure, I’d love an appointment for next week” and “you should call 911”. You’ve tried to do the right thing, but Doug has healthcare so underfunded, you couldn’t.

@dkmackinnon@ottawa.place Not that this absolves the use of AI transcription, but wouldn’t it help if we had actual access to our medical records, so we could see what has been entered into them?

@dkmackinnon@ottawa.place It seems that now would be a great time to introduce a tax or penalty system to prevent this from happening again, because it certainly will, unchecked.

@LovesTha@floss.social I can’t deny that TOU pricing makes it possible to lower my energy bill, but when doing shift work, it can be a struggle to stay up late enough to have a shower or do the laundry/dishes. It’s seasonal too, so even though it’s been cool enough here not to even contemplate turning on the A/C, the model dictates that in another 20 minutes for me, it’ll be switching over to high pricing for the day. I do understand your point though.

@mike@thecanadian.social I use that “clean sheet” as a sales pitch when I try to get others to come here: if you’re trying to escape being force fed algorithmic garbage, then knowing that there’s a direct link with everything you see in your feed to someone _you_ have interacted with, should be very alluring.

@catsalad@infosec.exchange I actually don’t mind vacuuming, so if I ever buy a Roomba, it’ll be for this reason only.

@NovaNaturalist I know it would have made for a spicy SOTI, but the meeting for tonight shouldn’t have been cancelled. Here was an opportunity to alleviate some of our concerns and then deliver an update on the instance’s health. That action alone would have held me back longer.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al @_elena@mastodon.social If Europe can’t get this right, no wonder it feels so hopeless here in Canada expecting our politicians to migrate away from American big tech.

@stephanie I don’t understand the need for the “capitation” model we have that has our doctors threatening us like that. Thankfully my doctor is part of a team with an after-hours clinic, but still, as you’ve noted the ER becomes a real option for some.

@futurebird And let them know that “defined benefit” was the rule, not the exception, back in the day.

@hewer_of_code The FOI charges are definitely more serious, but I think the airplane deal has a better chance of chipping away at Ford’s base because it just seems more tangible to them.

@EricLawton A mute button should be a requirement for more devices. I’ve got a UPS that beeps when it loses mains power. The house would be dead silent during a hydro outage - except for that one piece of equipment!

@maya_b@hachyderm.io If I remember correctly from the “clownvoy/trucker protest” days, Ford didn’t believe Ottawa was in Ontario, so I guess we can remove that location from the list.

@0xabad1dea This update here finally showed me how low Apple has sunk. I don’t want an updated OS that significantly degrades the performance of my older phone, so when I moved to 18.7.7, it tuned off iMessage sync to iCloud. On my wife’s phone, the same update turned on her iPhoto sync. Rebooting an iPhone should not be normalized either. Never mind the new hardware, Apple - stick to perfecting the software code.

@kevinbowrin Maybe to put it in terms that a BoE governor could understand, these cuts are all penny wise, pound foolish.

@Kuniti_shino To help keep the costs down, have you tried a welding supply outlet? They sell heavy gauge wire by the foot/metre, and have a great selection of termination fittings too.

@JonChevreau@mstdn.ca Still unreal that trading was essentially flat, and the VIX barely tweaked upwards as well. Are we all getting different news?!?

@LovesTha@floss.social We have that as an option here too: the ULO (ultra low overnight) rate. I have friends using that plan and they charge their EVs for practically nothing. I’m sure if I could do that, I’d be more of a fan of TOU.
I’m surprised to hear that (electrically speaking), Melbourne is so divided like that!

@TechTangents@dialup.space My wife does stained glass, and she’s constantly reading about people struggling to use patterns they’ve bought through the internet - and she can instantly see why: they’re AI generated, and can’t actually be done. I wonder if your grandmother even looked at the instructions deeply enough to see if they were capable of being made?
