Boosted by @welcome@friends.deko.cloud
Hey mstdn.social 👋 I'm building Serpent API — search & AI data infrastructure for developers. We cover: SERP data from 5 engines, AI citation monitoring (Gemini/ChatGPT/Perplexity/Claude), news search, local rank tracking, Reddit & X data. If you build tools, track rankings, or think about what AI search means for the web — I'd love to connect. apiserpent.com #introduction #SEO #API #IndieHackers #BuildInPublic #WebDev #OpenWeb

:tapestry_app: Things to note as you explore today’s version 2 release:

  • Be sure to update to 2.0 across ALL of your devices where you use the app (iPhone, iPad & Mac) so connectors stay in sync. Otherwise you’ll see errors when refreshing.

  • Speaking of errors, Mastodon.social is having a moment today, throwing 503 errors when taking action like faving, boosting, replying & posting. Please be patient.

Hang in there & have fun!

@WeirdWriter@caneandable.social Exactly. We’ve somehow confused communication with the corporations that mediate it. Email still works. SMS still works. The open web still works. The Fediverse works. But people now ask, “How will I contact you?” when what they really mean is, “Which closed platform are you still trapped inside?” That dependency is the problem. #Facebook #Meta #SocialMedia #OpenWeb #Fediverse #Mastodon #SMS #Email #DigitalIndependence #BigTech

One of the biggest problems we face is that we've forgotten how to talk about society. Outside the #mainstreaming agenda, conversations quickly collapse into individual opinions and personal choices. We struggle to think in terms of communities, the #commons and collective action. That's one of the deepest effects of #deathcult thinking. It trains us to see everything through the lens of individualism, making even simple #KISS ideas about cooperation and shared responsibility seem strange. We need to get back on our feet. #OMN #openweb #4opens

«Modern email can be built from borrowed parts» What if we designed the successor to email on top of HTTP, fixing 40 years of SMTP design flaws using only technologies that already exist? https://en.andros.dev/blog/d7ed8b07/modern-email-can-be-built-from-borrowed-parts/ #Email #ActivityPub #OpenWeb #Python

Let's design the successor to email on top of HTTP, fixing the design flaws SMTP has been dragging along for 40 years. Piece by piece. The goal is…

A reef isn't a single organism. Things settle where conditions suit them, and the substrate they share is what makes them a reef and not a scattering of unrelated lifeforms.

ActivityPub is that substrate. The Fediverse Beyond Mastodon series is complete. We published four posts about some of what's growing on it:

  1. The microblogging platforms that aren't Mastodon: Misskey, Pleroma, Akkoma, Friendica, GoToSocial. Several predate Mastodon, and some were federating before ActivityPub existed.

  2. The visual layer: Pixelfed, Loops, PeerTube. Your work sits on infrastructure you or your community control, and no ranking system decides who sees it.

  3. The writing platforms: Ghost, WordPress, WriteFreely, Micro.blog, Plume, Flipboard. Each arrived at federation by a different route.

  4. Forums, books, and music: Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin, NodeBB, Bookwyrm, Bandwagon.
