I mainly use Mastodon but I am also on #BlueSky to follow & interact with people who are not here. Having said that, I am pissed that due to the #UK government age verification laws I have to prove my ID/age via a 3rd party company to use the site for direct messaging. Thank you but no.
I could use a VPN to get around this but I found more elegant solutions on github. Adding the suggested script into UBlock Origin on #Firefox worked a treat. #privacy https://gist.github.com/mary-ext/6e27b24a83838202908808ad528b3318

I just killed off my #Bluesky account today. I started out on it about a month ago to see what things were like over there. At first, it briefly felt nostalgic to me; I was having memories of 2007-2010 twitter when it wasn't blatantly corporate.
But, that feeling faded kinda quickly when I encountered Bluesky's algorithm. I was seeing the effect it had on users; there was an urgency for attention, jockeying for the quickest take on the trending topic, and the underlying quest for endless dopamine. People weren't communicating as much as they were performing for reactions.
I tried to find my groove, or my people... but I felt like I was in alien territory. When I caught myself looking up how to build a following on on that platform, that was the moment I pumped the brakes.
Who I am shouldn't require a strategy on how to win over internet strangers. I am the person I am because I am confident and comfortable with who I've become.
I closed the app, went back to the #fediverse.
I haven't logged back in to Bluesky in a few weeks.
Today, I decided to permanently logout.

I really just need help. I'm trying my best but it's hard when you don't have food, your body is malnourished to the point that your teeth are falling out, on top of my usual disabilities it's just too much for me especially handling it all alone.

consider who on #bluesky focuses attention on the company instead of the ATmosphere and what effect that is having on millions of users who never think about decentralization. especially the people who work for the company but claim they are really there because of higher ideals, not getting paid.

The temptation to use a different, non-fedi social to share my writing and poetry and thoughts is pretty tempting sometimes.
Like, okay. I don't write smutty spice, or poetry, or whatev else for money, or to build a brand, or to get ppl to sub to my stuffs, but IS nice when ppl read and comment. Mostly tho, I (and other indie writers I guess) are invisible.
Lol, I guess the writing bot likes my stuffs?
I've tried Archive Of Our Own but at least my experience was that if u aren't writing fanfics, u are invisible. Maybe I was doing it wrong?
There's Tumblr, Bluesky, I guess? I hate that if I want real feedback, I have to compromise and use the ick tho! And I mean TOS and data miners ugh.
