Something that hasn't largely been noticed, we no longer have personal computers.
We had the world conned into taking our “dollars” and giving us cars, food, nice vacations, drugs, a huge military, all kinds of manufactured stuff for nothing, and we thought they were ripping us off! So we blew it up. The would-be “Art Of The Con” mastermind undid the biggest con in history.
I found out recently that my blog is in of the startup set for NetNewsWire.
It's quite an honor to be included in that club.

BTW, as you read this, note that Mastodon does not have the limits I write about. The whole post is here, including links. They could do a little better, but this is a huge advantage that Mastodon has, thanks to the open power of ActivityPub.

the answer is to have the paywall handled by a third party, and you pay per article read, not give all your money to one publication. yes this has problems too, but at least you can read the one piece per year from an out of town news org that touches on something you need/want to know about.

I have a question about Automattic‘s new wordpress server in a sandbox, does it support the wpcom api?
Btw, I don’t like slack, and I lost my twitter account so it’s down to Bluesky and mastodon for communicating with other Wordpress devs, unless i’m missing something. 😀

the great thing about the web is we can all work together.
i've still got big plans for RSS, we need to get these systems really supporting it, not just outbound, inbound too. and supporting all the writing features of the web.
if you really appreciate the open tech, become an advocate. we can get a lot more interop from RSS than ActivityPub. It's simpler, and very much built-in, and thus gives far wider interop than any of the other possible formats.

to save you the trouble of saying they don't exist, consider that most of us were raised by women, our values and ideas about the world and ourselves were put there by women. that's right up there with the things you list.
i didn't say there was a "gender war" -- i'd say we create each other. and the women do the vast majority of the creating.

I put together an app with the help of Claude that takes the name of a place, person or thing, and publishes a page on a static site.
I’m learning about MCP.
Looks familiar, like the glue script files in Frontier.
I’m interested in hearing from chatgpt/claude users about whether they use MCP interfaces?

apple is a company, very good at selling itself as a lifestyle. but there's only one person, who's been gone for 15 years, who could keep that reality distortion field inflated.
we didn't see it directly in the US but imagine the compromises they had to make to be so in bed with the chinese government? the US isn't that far gone yet but we're getting there.
the story is very old, the diff is that people just don't like to see it on their tv. ;-)
