Today I learned that Liu Hui, Chinese mathematician from the Three Kingdoms period (around 3rd century CE), explained how to calculate areas of different polygons, and calculated the value of pi to 5 digits. His work added to an existing compilation, now called "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art".
