@WeirdWriter@caneandable.social Its hard to trust law and regulations especially now when #ageVerification (mass de-anonimisation) and #chatControl are forced our throats and #Chatcontrol2 already waits in the queue to further violate our #privacy ... :/

@freezr @Larvitz@mastodon.bsd.cafe I wouldn’t say it broke it. When new DB server is required as dependency then pkg manager shows that previous server will be removed. This is signal for admin to dump/transfer data to new server. It seems that this time user overlooked what pkg manager said it will do. Not sure how it is on other systems but on FreeBSD the package manger is not automagically transfer databases between servers when there is a major DB server update.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social they should use AI then to find security holes and patch them instead of going close-source/proprietary only :/

@lynnesbian@fedi.lynnesbian.space Oh great, another way/attempt to tie user with his unique ID (mobile device) to track all his activities and profile them along the way. Times are crazy with this all new attacks on our freedom and right to privacy. How do you think what’s this OS level age proof idea is truly about? And all this “video your face and say something nice” in our apps to prove you are you? :/

Powodzenia!

@ItsePerkele @Antti98 @kallekn @skersis Thanks Perkele, the linked doc is citing CEO letter: “Jolla Oy has been actively driving down its Russian business already during 2021 and will not generate any turnover from Russia. The only connection, then, is ownership.” Hence it’s still unclear to me what happened later and who currently owns Jolla.

@Antti98 @kallekn @skersis It’s good to know, thanks! I just cannot find this public statement and hear some complaints that there is no transparency about current ownership status. I guess that sharing publicly this info would help the company to quickly clarify in easy way this fact to potential customers. Unless there is again something to be not proud of. I hope not because I’d really like to see more Linux phones on the market!

@kallekn @skersis @jolla Just Google for it. They have been partially owned by Russian company which was 45% state owned but I hear that after invasion on Ukraine they’ve managed to resolve this issue and got out of this awkward situation? It would be best though if Jolla would clarify themself the current status and ownership.

@Antti98 @ItsePerkele @kallekn @skersis Yeah, it’s still may be seen as suspicious that Jolla is not transparent about the owners. After all even if the non-Finish owner(s) is from Europe then hmm… Belarus is also in Europe as an example :s I guess Jolla have their own reasons of not sharing this info and I’m personally not that much interested in finding it out, just my opinion that it’s quite strange?

@isaackuo @MichaelTBacon @MartinEscardo It’s fast to change volume on iPhones (fast reaction to holding volume down button and rapid change of volume). On Macbooks there is mute button but I guess that other non-apple laptops have it too?

@tuvix@vivaldi.net I would say that it’s most probably as good as it can for good and matured #Mastodon client.
It helps a lot that it can be verified by users/public by being Open Source, but from #privacy point of view it’s probably more important to understand limitations of #Federated network.
This is great article describing this matter:

@tuvix@vivaldi.net What platforms do you have in mind? Mobiles or PC? What OS?

What do you mean by Fediverse client?
Do you mean Mastodon client?
Fediverse itself include multiple other services.

For web browsers I like to have a peak here:

@ilumium@eupolicy.social @Fairphone@social.weho.st So far only selected Apple iPhones models got the hardware with this capability (modem). Since it’s Apple own modem and no signs that the tech is open to anyone interested it may take quite some time to other mobile manufacturers to come with similar solution.

@momo@floss.social I won’t be surprised that subscription wouldn’t cover all tracks from your collection. Some tracks available now are disappearing with time… Some artists are pulling off from subscription services. Sometimes some rights to stream are lapsing etc… Streaming services is “pay but do not own” with all its pros and cons.

@momo@floss.social In our case we’re storing other data on server anyway, photos, videos important documents etc. so adding #Navidrome and a bit more storage wasn’t big diff. Server is low power and passive cooled, few spinning rust HDDs are making negligible difference in power bill but owned files won’t dissapear due to legal difficulties between content/streaming provider and publisher/artist. Streaming services are great for finding new artists/music though!

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social Good job from Mozilla guys! As for closing the open source branch of Cal it’s more like hiding things from community as for malicious attackers using AI to find vulnerabilities it’s just adding one more step - decompile binaries before handing it to AI. For human beings it would be hard to read and comprehend decompiled code without meaningful named of classes, functions, varables etc. but I assume that for AI it makes no difference.

@MartinEscardo@mathstodon.xyz I also remember times when computers where booting 5 minutes or when you need to remember to run command to park disk drive headers before powering off system to prevent their permanent damage. Hell, I do even remember when loading a game from tape was taking around half an hour :o But I do agree that due to hardware constraints software was often much better designed and there was no bloatware everywhere (Win11&mobiles) or unnecessary complications like systemd etc

@ck0@tech.lgbt @xoron@infosec.exchange Not sure if tagging/labelling something as #OpenSource while it’s only partially open is a good practice and probably doesn’t help to build trust. If we do go this way then maybe we need to introduce new acronym? If #FOSS is standing for Free Open Source Software we perhaps should add #FFOSS -> a Free Fully Open Source Software? ;)
