Hei Fedi,
I'm on the warpath against my corporate landlords about the heating in our apartment not working properly. I have five RuuviTags spread around to measure the temperature. I connected the sensors to the HomeAssistant on my computer, which is _not always on_.
=> Is there a way to get HA to download the historical data from the tags when it gets switched on? (The phone app can do this, so the data exists.)

@denzilferreira@techhub.social what we should really do is pour millions into mobile Linux and end this era of basically every phone being controlled by two companies.
We should be able to buy a phone like we buy a computer, and then install whatever OS and programs we want, like on a computer.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io incidentally, I feel the same way about all those computer science people who claim that the Turing Test is a test of intelligence and a system passing it is "intelligent". Turing never claimed this in "The Imitation Game", he just said that this is the last frontier in examining intelligence from the outside (and implied that thus it's impractical to try to judge whether a system is "intelligent" or not).

@dave But Dave, we do moderate the shit out of these people, their later sockpuppet accounts, and we defed from the instances where they can create new accounts algorithmically (i.e. faster than we can ban them).
Certain cases have even been reported to law enforcement.
There is no escape from the banhammer if the moderator crew is motivated enough.
Keep those reports coming.

Hey Fedi Friends!
There is this gap between the lowest silver part and the top of the grayish part that shouldn't be there. I can see bearing balls in the lower part, and the top part is a bit conical.
How do I close this gap?
I tried mild force: loosening everything and tightening the bolt on top to pull everything down resulted in a snapped bolt. Hammering the loosened stem downwards did nothing.

@Steffi@toot.wales you probably have a rain jacket. Get a pair of waterproof trousers to go with it. It will be better because it protects you from the side too.

@TarkabarkaHolgy This moment echoes way too much of Fidesz's landslide victory in 2010. A historical chance. How will it be used?

I'm not sure why you are so interested in backups. Most apps have nothing to back up. You install it on the new phone, maybe log in, stuff is there. Basically the photos and the contact list are the only things you might want to save manually.
"Transferring everything to a new phone was a multi-day project"?
What's your plan for a day when your phone is lost/destroyed/obsolete? This is not harder.

Yes, the switch from Android to /e/OS is a bit long, but you only need to do this once, the step-by-step guide is excellent and things go exactly as it says. If you once have 1-2 hours, you can do it and it will work. The bootloader is locked at the end, so the device isn't "rooted".
/e/OS can install from the main Android app store, without identifying you to Google. Your bank stuff will work.

"It is not a realistic option for anyone but nerds who like to tinker with their phone OS." This is not true. You can walk into a shop and buy a phone with /e/OS on it. For converting the phone, only one nerd needs to tinker, only once for an hour. This does not need to be the owner.
Backups: save whatever you think you need for each app?

@mrc I once had to replace the shifter part for a Shimano Deore XT groupset (4 clicks up, 2 clicks down). It's a very complicated design and there is a piece that keeps things under tension that is impossible to put back for a normal person with normal tools. So it might be that your problem is there.
