  • Open on toot.cat

Queer artist currently focused on pixel art and visual novels (mostly discussed elsewhere).

Shares for other mature adults. Political posts are US-based and made to sort out thoughts from prayers. (No, we won't agree on anything 100%. I don't agree with myself that much. The world is complex.)

Goes quiet and uses only the star button when burnt out. Doesn't have a consistent sense of time.

The avi and images are self-made.

My bad comic didn't go out? I must've dreamt it did.

This one-paged oneshot is nothing but a pencil sketch in a comic workbook, the panel order is wrong, the joke might only make sense to a niche audience, a filter was slapped on top, and it's either very late or a year early.

Yep, it's bad.

Nailed it!

@3Fingers@blorbo.social I'm addressing this to your shape on the screen but don't actually care if you see the post. It's not for you. It's for onlookers wanting more info about why they feel they need to block you or warn their server admins about your reply above. For one thing, the original post was likely referring to AI slop. "Putting aside all the ethical concerns" is a phrase used so often by slop shovelers that it's a meme by now. Secondly— it's not the original poster or anyone else in the conversation who seem to be suffering from mental distress over the existence of the word evil appearing in a memetic post. There are other people here who either understand the shorthand or they don't and move on. Telling the entire word what it can and cannot see, which words do and do not have meaning, is a ridiculous act. More than one perspective exists. You show awareness of that at one point but then repeatedly contradict yourself. Interestingly, you argue that evil doesn't exist but love does. They're a part of the same abstract systems. Love is no less difficult a concept to define, and its meaning varies based moral paradigms. Your response, as you acknowledged, comes across as a defense of evil. It sounds the same as "racists don't exist" / "racism doesn't exist" when someone mentions how people talk like racists. Worse, it's saying the victims of racism are insane for talking about harm. Communication is always approximate. It doesn't matter matter that race doesn't really exist. Most of us are aware there are people who believe it does and hurts others through racism. To bring up the example already in the thread: Are you able to agree that torture, rape, and bombing schools is bad, or would you argue about the definition of the word and how it only has meaning if these abuses affect yourself and loved ones, if you have any? At this point, my assumption is the the argument would slide even farther from the original point. "Putting aside all ethical concerns" is a common definition of evil. People who talk like that don't sound logical, only cruel or (as if there's a difference) willfully clueless of abuse. @violetmadder@kolektiva.social @petrillic@hachyderm.io

@DeltaWye@tiggi.es @feliks@chaos.social I'm not sure about the veracity of the image, but this scenario is one of the vulnerabilities AI researchers have warned about repeatedly over the past several years. It's easy to trick chatbots that have access to excessive info and very little oversight. These models were early experiments that were unleashed on the public far too soon.

I'm tired of conducting a web search for nearly everything of importance every day.

Question: What are the steps for backing up (alternatively, transferring) everything to a USB connection from a terminal with no mouse input?

I worked on illustrations for "Snared Spirit" (Ren'Py version), "Spirit of the Latch", and a MerMay project today. That was not as not as satisfying as I'd hoped for. My mouse really is dying? The computer's fan keeps acting up, too. But, hey, there's a rough draft of Monkey that formed in a bout of stubborness.

@futurebird I interpreted what he said as a snarky (with the snark directed at the industry) "LLMs aren't only spicy autocomplete. They're also schemes with real people in the chat." I understand your thread above is focused on the algorithmic part of the process and why the phrase is valid, in part. But also, the existence of the Kenyans and Nigerians on the other side of the creative brainstorming and sexbot acts are rarely recognized. It's kind of nice to see it brought up. Those people are performing roles that are nicer to the "AI" users, but there are consequences that I feel aren't talked about enough. Just like the autocomplete part of the process isn't. The behind the scenes is often a Wizard of Oz type of smoke-and-mirrors act. @u0421793 (is that what you were saying?)

@CedC@diaspodon.fr sounded like an AI fan in your first post. Block. People need to be able to trust each other to get and give technical help that can affect quality of living. Trust is broken when someone in the conversation tries to promote chatbots and bullshit coding programs in lieu of the understanding, sympathy, and patience requested in the top of the thread.

@mallory_sinn@hachyderm.io 1990s: was GNC (not the phrase used back then), fought social suppression and body dysphoria. aughts: started(?) HRT (not the phrase used and this excludes an obscure treatment) but was forced to take the wrong hormones (matching gender assigned at birth). start of 2010s: learned there are terms for what I was and am, found supposedly supportive groups; tried to come out and seek medical help; dealt with transphobic, homophobic, and sexist BS from family, friends, social (art & writing) group members, coworkers, work, supervisors, doctors, politicians, and media. later 2010s: more of the same except worse. 2020+: less direct social interaction, more access to telehealth services, started GAHT/HRT. No matter how much I've seen it, I don't really understand the egg metaphor— something to do with social media profiles, or is it "born again" beliefs? What I know is we take what we get. Some trans people are supported and transition smoothly to focus on other areas of life without constant drama. Many of us here pick up pieces of the resources we can reach and make do with them. The fediverse could count as a resource.

@meagantrott@mastodon.art I've been seeing that, too. Yet another nonsense justification for LLMs. My solo project relied on parts made by other people and isn't as pretty as yours, but it's what I wanted it to be (with updates I'm still working on), all without having to ask a chatbot for code, images, or advice (regurgitated from the forums meant for people to read directly). That's linked at the bottom. A lot of the frustrations of learning and searching for answers alone stems from the protections put in place against the AI/LLM developers by their peers. Knowledge would be freerer if we weren't in the abusive social situation with unwanted scrapers and mass profilers. https://falsfiction.itch.io/spirit-of-the-latch

@blinry @dianea it's been on my to-do list to try, but when I went to gather the basic steps, I ended up with something like 100 pages of instructions that repeatedly point out that I will almost certainly brick the phone, possibly with damage to any connected device and no help for repairs. So, yeah, maybe too good to be a true alternative except for the lucky few. It's nice that there is an option out there, tho.

@masukomi@connectified.com I've had successful installs take over an hour. As far as I remember, every attempt that amount of time has failed. I've canceled processes after three or four hours of no progress. Microsoft experiences made me wary of corrupted updates after long waits. Anyhow, what I actually want to point out is that Ubuntu mirrors have been going down this week. I'm guessing that has something to do with the kernel patches. You might have better luck trying after the situation calms a bit.

I am 140% fed up with spoofers. If I ever were to get into serious hacking, it would be to crash their computers, only theirs.

They're entirely evil when pushing through during emergencies in the area they're calling. (I'm okay, only a little stressed.)

@ruari that's nice, sincerely. Related question: in Firefox and derivatives, I can look at the Ublock filter on each page to choose between links. If one webpage has 85 elements blocked, a second with similar info or capability has 12, and a third has zero, then I'd recommend the third in conversations. Because not everyone's using Vivaldi, is there a way to see what on a page was blocked by it?

@chrisamaphone maybe from Mark Twain's writing of Mississippi's ships, I knew the term "leagues" was associated with speed. That implied horizontal movement to me. Without the context, I would have assumed it meant the submarine was traveling 20k {unfamiliar measurement} below the surface. Totally understandable.
