Apparently, the secret to growing things in a pumpkin patch is to say, “Fine, I give up!” then ignore it for a month. 😀

It wasn’t until I got home that I noticed a hitchhiker on my shoelaces. I must have picked it up in the wildflower meadow this morning. I’m going to try rooting and growing it. 🌵👟

Thinking about the garden today, and how the chiles have been the most successful and have brought me the most happiness this year. 🌶️😊
Also been thinking about those things that I keep trying to grow, but which don’t ever work out very well. It’s time to say goodbye to those and maybe try some new things. I’d like more of a happy Bob Ross kinda garden that feels less of a chore, especially as summers keep getting hotter and drier. 🪴🎨

It’s very warm, very humid (for Colorado), and the air smells kinda bad after slow cooking in the stagnant heat for days now. But the clouds this morning allowed for a nice bike ride. I saw a beautiful bobcat wandering alongside the trail, but they didn’t stop for a selfie. The goldenrod is starting to bloom — their plumes look so vibrant on a cloudy day. 🚴🏽♂️🌾

It was still 1000° and the air quality was kinda bad, but I had a nice evening bike ride and some great sunset views. 🚴🏽♂️🌅

I’m intrigued that some of my amaranth plants are starting to grow variegated red and green leaves. Is it the heat? Soil chemistry? Hybridization? Aliens? They’re pretty, whatever it is.🪴🤷🏽♂️

I try not to rant too much, but today I was angry. My neighbor ran his lawn sprinkler for 10 continuous hours from morning through evening in 100°F/38°C heat. There’s nothing I can do about it (because reasons), but it was so frustrating to see all that water being selfishly wasted in the heat and drought. 🤬
The good news: While hand-watering my own garden this evening, I found some peace in my tomato plants. 🍅☮️
My neighbor has nothing to show for his efforts, except a bunch of useless green grass and (hopefully) an astronomical water bill. Me? I have fresh tomatoes, and cucumbers, and chiles, and carrots, and peaches, and wildflowers, and pollinators, and birds, and… 🌾🐝
I think that’s what counts the most. 😊

Two good things this evening: More goodies from the garden, plus a brief, refreshing thunderstorm. 🥒🍅⛈️

(Thinking about the person at the farmers market a month ago complaining that the peaches were too early. Maybe they just need to get their own peach tree. 🤭)

@studiofox@beige.party I love my garden, but watering plants twice a day this summer because heat/drought feels exactly like this.

@sunumbral@beige.party There’s a place in Colorado National Monument like that. I called it Edge of the World when I found it many years ago. There’s a trail that wanders through dense sagebrush and juniper, then suddenly opens up to the whole canyon and Grand Valley beyond — it literally took my breath away. I sat on the edge and cried because it was so awe-inspiring and beautiful.

@AncTreat5358@lgbtqia.space I’m overflowing (gratefully) with basil this year, so it’s mostly traditional right now. Spinach/walnut pesto is good, too. I could maybe try some cilantro pesto, because I have a bunch of that growing as well.

@AncTreat5358@lgbtqia.space Sorry for the scary incident, but I’m glad you’re OK. Does your town have a “close call” report that you could submit for that intersection?
