@emenel ironic that I have an XPS that has no camera, speakers or mic because Dell only supported Ubuntu 22.x for the proprietary drivers. I definitely haven't experienced this amazing driver support they speak of

@iFixit I fixed my work laptop recently. Embarrassingly one of the fans had been blocked by a crisp crumb. I'm a sucker for Pringles
Today I installed Qbz, a native Linux Qobuz client that provides better sound quality than the browser. It isn't available in nixpkgs so I had to install the tarball manually and I only went and flipping did it. Wasn't anywhere near as challenging as I thought it would be and now I have a lovely new music player. I love #nixos

@elena @emilymbender @cwebber @tante I have committed my team to pledging abstinence from all AI tools for at least a month to go against the tide at my employer
Had my Steam Deck for about a week now and man I love this console. Finally, my extensive PC gaming catalogue is accessible to me again. Currently playing Resident Evil 1 and having a blast #SteamDeck #ResidentEvil
Reading Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. Could be my first five star book in a long time. Brilliant so far #bookstodon #books #booklist2026

The conservatives are arguing the UK should start drilling for more oil from the north sea. They might as well advocate setting your house on fire as a low cost way to reduce your heating bills. Idiotic

@TheresaReason I think you are correct. I don't know Avi but do know Naomi. Live in Scotland
Finally created my blog yesterday. It is basic but functional. Just a place to post and an RSS feed just now. Spent the rest of the evening trying to find a good domain name. All the ones I think of are taken

@flypaper I can certainly take a look at this but it would be my first time doing such, so I might struggle. I'll ping you if I make any progress on it

@erikaheidi@fosstodon.org Sorry Erika, a stupid question but did you then just print out the keychain on a home 3d printer?
After a lot of head scratching I had another go at applying an overlay for a previous version of Strongsong in NixOS tonight and finally got it working. I love NixOS but really need a deep dive, for beginners paced tutorial as I feel there are gaps in my knowledge and the docs out there aren't always that clear for me. #NixOS

@colly@mastodon.social HTTT might be my favourite Radiohead album. Never understood why it was so underrated
RE: @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social
This is just horrendous :(
I don't think I'd get another Dell machine. The XPS series is billed as having great Linux support but my XPS version has zero support for the webcam, mic, or speakers since upgrading my Kernel & moving away from Ubuntu as the drivers were proprietary and Dell only released support for Ubuntu 22x builds

@joel yep. Considering it is 24 year old it holds up incredibly well. The pre rendered background have really held up
I thought someone had stopped following me and thought I was probably going to heavy on the AI hate. Then I realised that Mastodon has just changed their UI. AI hate will resume shortly

So tonight I found out about direnv. How did I not know about this handy tool before? So, so unbelievably useful #direnv
I've recently taken a serious interest in lawn care and spent over £300 on equipment. Is this middle age?
My mother in law is in despair because her Kindle Fire is being effectively bricked by Amazon from the 20th of May. I'm lucky that I am fairly tech savvy but it is crazy how many devices will be sent to landfill just because Amazon doesn't want to support old devices
Catching up on #movieclub and just finished But I'm a Cheerleader. It had a fantastic soundtrack and lovely charm. Was pleasantly surprised. Up next, The Third Man

@robhawkes do you know of any plans to fix this so we don't need to discard the energy? Any plans to build a bigger straw?

Someone has just submitted a PR for Passport to help Claude code with it. I hope no one does this for my libs.
BBC have a daily news podcast about a football team. Thought I might be interested in it. Played today's episode and am greeted with an announcement that the podcast is read by an AI voice. No thank you
Happy #WorldBookDay. Hoping some of you lovely folks can recommend a book for me to add to my reading list. I'm open to reading anything as long as this book is a five star recommendation from you.
My recommendation would be Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day. A masterpiece
