@jdarnold@indieweb.social @molly0xfff@hachyderm.io I am a bit of a loss how anyone can "corrupt" what is basically a Ponzi scheme and that is all crypto is, but it is also all our currency has been since Jekyll Island fiasco. So when the entire economic system is one big sham accusing one person of corrupting one aspect of it clearly political and nothing else.

@kaia@pleroma.soykaf.com So if everyone is supposed to be sitting on a park bench instead of working, they must be sitting naked, hungry, and without transport, because someone has to make the clothes, grow and transport the food, build the vehicles, drill and refine the fuel, etc, and if everyone is setting on a bench reading a book that doesn't exist because nobody was writing or publishing, then yea I guess it works.

@rogerb@mastodon.scot @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us That doesn't tell me what data set within it you are using or where they sourced the data. At any rate, starvation is an existential risk, a 1-2C rise is not. HadCRUT 5.1 is a collaborative, gridded global temperature dataset produced by the Met Office Hadley Centre and the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU). It combines land surface air temperatures (CRUTEM5) with sea surface temperatures (HadSST4) to create a comprehensive record of global temperature anomalies since 1850. The land portion of these sources have long been criticized as not being representative as many are in known heat islands. Even so windmills and solar panels won't replace the baseload power or quantity that we need, real power sources are required to address both global warming and starvation. These require an industrial base which current policies are destroying.

7.x Kernel
We have reverted from 7.2.6 kernel back to 6.18.52 kernels for friendica.eskimo.com and our other federated sites.
The reason we have done so is the scheduler in 7.x has disabled the ability to specify a non-preemptive kernel, but on an 18-core 36-thread very busy machine, this results in a lot of trash, wasted CPU and memory cycles and eventually some of the kernel processes don't get enough CPU, the whole machine backs up and does, where it remains sane under 6.18.x kernels.
I did file a bug report with kernel.org to try to make them aware of how the new scheduler logic was NOT working for some hardware configurations and workloads and was basically told to fuck-off.
I think it is sad that Linux which up to this point has been highly configurable and worked for a wide variety of hardware and workloads is now being optimized as a Windows replacement and a game console OS not a server OS.

@ErikUden@mastodon.de Yea reducing the cost of access to space to 1/10th of what it previously was, providing global internet, creating the first mass produced usable electric cars, providing an interface enabling locked in patience a way to interact with the world, improving robotic manufacturing efficiency, definitely the product of a warped mind. And the degree to which capitalism is a disease, name me one, just one historical instance where communism has created anything except universal poverty, starvation, and death.

Fighting AI/LLM slop-assisted/generated code (+)
@polyphonychat Yea always dread May Day as the day when the historically ginorant who think the Bolsheviks, the Chinese Cultural Revolution, East Germany, and North Korea were or are some type of Utopia. The truth of the matter is that as crippled as Capitalism is, you're far more likely to starve under Communism and far less able to live as you like unless what you like is sponging off the masses. In truth I don't think the purest form of either works and something better needs to evolve.

@hopeless @eudoxos @mason @Paul_Taylor The real issue I think is the Internet started out as a Military and University only Arpanet, and during that era mail protocols were developed. Trust on that network was high, almost absolute, that does not work on the Internet we have to day but the base protocols haven't changed, just a lot of add-on's tacked on, os that makes it not easy.

@ChrisMayLA6 People should consider that as a species we're all in this together, when we waste energy fighting each other we take away from the positive side of the possibility sphere. Freedom is intrinsically linked to responsibility, people want freedom without responsibility but when given that freedom results in actions that bring harm to others, that freedom ends up being taken away. Use the freedom responsibly and you can keep it. And this tends to be collective, so even if one individual operates responsibly and with integrity, if his or her cohorts don't, freedoms tend to be taken from the group.

@ErikUden@mastodon.de I think people here aren't doing the best job of seeking clarity, those dismissing certain posts because they think they are AI, what is the relevance? Is the data / opinion being presented of value or not? That it's writing style might not be to your preference is irrelevant to the content.
The study you reference, a lot of hoopla to tease out what we have an English word for, "Greed", and is it bad? Well it's evolutionary logic, people who possessed it acquired the resources they needed to pass on their genes to the next generation.
A lot of the problems we see to do are the result of genetics that largely evolved as hunter-gatherers when interaction was largely confined to small bands and tribes, material scarcity was an existential risk, and survival was the driver.
Now, we can survive better with cooperation than competition, we have regular global interaction and communications, international supply lines, our old genetic predispositions are no longer appropriate but the are still wired in.
If we want to survive we've got to use our cerebral capacity to override instinct long enough for our genetics to catch up, start thinking of our tribe as being any human anywhere, start valuing cooperation over competition.

@kernow@clubcyberia.co @WoodshopHandman@poa.st Recluse comes from the same place, fear, but fear is only appropriate for immediate physical threats, I can't advise you on the best way to get over it, I can tell you what didn't work for me, psychiatric talk therapy and SSRIS, and what worked for me and that was a form of meditation called mindfulness meditation. But what will work for you, well that requires personal exploration, the point is to live long enough to get there and to be willing to explore and learn and take emotional risks. Rejection feels like shit, but there are 8 billion people on the planet, one of them if or you.

@infobeautiful@vis.social While this is fun speculation, the truth of the matter is human skeletons decay extremely rapidly so fossil evidence is far from complete and there is much evidence there have been more than one wave of migration and not all of them may have started in Africa. We can trace all languages back to an African proto-language but that's about the only thing we can know with certainty.
