What seems to be available is the opportunity to leverage your viewing experience for the sole benefit of the manufacturer. If an opportunity is available to access the net in any fashion, will your Smart TV start delivering data to the mfg. This is the dilemma of buying any IoT device. Why does your toothbrush need an internet address?

@Natasha_Jay Be sure to check that the drive you want to boot from can be recognized in BIOS without a special boot driver. Dell has a bad habit of providing no built in NVME drivers. For many, this means that dual boot (using the Dell proprietary NVME code that Windoze boots under) is the least worst viable method. Dell wants you locked into the Windoze world. Whatever you do, max out your ram on the Dell too. Lave a look at LMDE 7 as well (a Mint flavor w/o the Canonical garbage.

@ekis well, lets face it. Banks aren’t paragons of consumer protection. EVER heard of anyone who got money back from a bank if they got hacked (& I don’t mean FDIC insurance.) BANKS & CREDIT companies have very little skin in the game. In my little town one of the banks runs their web presence including financial stuff on a VAX VMS machine (79’s tech!) So no surprise someone could peddle them AI slop. There won’t be repercussions for the bank when it fails.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online Homelessness did start as a mental health problem back in the 60’s when Reagan emptied the State Mental Hopitals and reneged on the promise of providing funding to cope. It changed to housing predominately, sometime in the 90’s. The counties, who have responsibility for chronic MH treatment consistently report the need for supportive housing as their #1 issue. But, the mentally ill do not constitute the majority of the population.

Ran across an odd bug (maybe?) in my upgrade to LMDE 7. When using the #Wayland desktop my shift key, home key, and end key cease to function. Switch back to accepted protocol and things are fine. It says ‘beta’ so I expect bugs. At a loss on where to send a bug report. #linux

A local home with a dab of property was listed locally for >$600k. It sat vacant for 8 months waiting to sell. It was priced at 2x local properties. Finally sold @$400k which is par for the location. Didn’t seel because of greed.
