@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org @mark@mastodon.fixermark.com @jwz@mastodon.social on reflection, this sounds like the sort of thing that the NHTSA would have an opinion on.

@MimiWhiskers @sundogplanets I believe that it's just a stupid idea, intended to inflate the stock price for the intended upcoming IPO of SpaceX. There is no serious intent to actually launch much of anything.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Oh good, I'm not the only one with that take - I have been seriously wondering if I'd misread things the way people have been talking about it.

@weston I have no experience with GTK, but I can say QT has been getting more and more bloated over the years, to the point that my employer has stopped using it for internal utilities - we'd rather deal with command line stuff than fool with trying to get all the QT stuff to work out.

@benroyce @MaryAustinBooks Don't understate the US's complicity in this - we could easily have given them enough to bounce Russia back to the border years ago, and instead we trickled stuff out and ignored our responsibility to Ukraine.

@mhoye@cosocial.ca This is entirely perplexing. I know everyone has their own threat models when it comes to backups, but the word backup REALLY implies a certain minimum number of things that you should be protecting against.

@aram This seems like the correct result to me - for the ISP to prevent you doing things requires invasiveness that isn't reasonable, and which would cost an ever increasing amount of money.

@peterbrown@mastodon.scot @glynmoody@mastodon.social The only good thing about these a-holes here is that they are far too stupid to do anything quietly or in such a way that people won't notice. Our problematic nature is on full display, and anyone trying to pretend we aren't hostile at this point is a plant working against you.

Replying to
@polotek@social.polotek.net 1) I've had some conference talks and I've done CSM training, so I kinda have a clue how to estimate. 2) I'm making stuff up based on a guess as to what is desired. It gets better the better I'm able to break things down, but I'm usually so stressed about today's stuff that I'm unable to really break the new task down well. 3) I have little to no confidence in my own estimates, partly because I CAN'T measure success - too many side tasks to count.

@patagona@chaos.social Awesome. This is what you get when things (like filesystems on a USB device) are so complex that virtually no one implements the stack of components necessary to deal with them - your library tends to come with all SORTS of extra goodies you didn't know about.

Replying to
@mattblaze@federate.social @ncweaver.skerry-tech.com There's a big wildcard in seeing who the DOJ gets on this. They've lost a lot of good people through the various purges of folks that aren't 'loyal' to the clown, which has resulted in some pretty embarrassing failures on their part. If they end up with the clown brigade on this, it could go sideways for them very quickly.
