@fracicone@mastodon.uno @david@fouroclockfarms.club that article references Donald Trump and a fake oval office, not Fred Trump, Donalds Trumps father that had dementia. The latter is what the OP is referring to. Secondly, posting an AI generated prompt like "Factually" to refute a story is basically nothing, even if it was actually relevant to the topic at hand. LLM are full of mistakes they repeat confidently, so they are inherently not trustworthy as a source in any argument.

@jackie@social.linux.pizza @ZaneSelvans@social.coop that's Pakistan actually, due to the Ukraine war price shocks: https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2026/4/7/how-pakistans-solar-boom-is-shielding-it-from-worst-of-iran-war-crisis >The solar share in the country’s energy mix has increased from 2.9 percent in 2020 to a whopping 32.3 percent in 2025, according to EMBER, an independent think tank. They are importing something lie 10% of all chinas solar exports, and its almost all individual installs, not industrial scale. Before this, their grid was 90% fossil fuel driven, and massively unreliable. Pakistan has around 250 million people in it, so this is an amazing shift.

@renardboy @Legit_Spaghetti @cmconseils add sponsorblock as well. It uses community notes to auto skip the YouTuber ad reads and promos. Its amazing how well it works. Right after any big youtuber releases a video, it skips over them. Even smaller youtubers will ad skip within a few minutes of release, and if not, the plugin let's you easy annotate the start - stop to help others.

@ricci@discuss.systems holy fuck is it wild who it surfaces. I had a VP at an old job I maybe sent 3 emails to because the guy was one of those "never write it down so there is no evidence types." No texts, nothing. Barely ever sent him a message on teams because he literally did not reply. Somehow, android share menu things hes my primary fucking contact at all times. My partner that I talk to over a half dozen mechanisms all fucking day, literally daily? Nah, 4th down the list, if I'm lucky. Somehow I gotta stare down that nozzles shit eating grin every time I hit share, with literally no way to order/edit/change any option without flat out uninstalling an app. Absolute chumps.

@fmn@mastodon.social @Mastodon@mastodon.social @johnonolan@mastodon.xyz Ghost is one of the newsletter/blogging vendors like Substack that helps journalists run a patreon style buisness that keeps them independent. It is a valuable thing to have, especially as so many venerable names in mainstream media bend the knee to facism. The difference between ghost and substack is that you can fully self host, pay much less for hosting if you dont want to, join the fediverse and of course biggest of all, do it without nazis.

@vonKordke@mastodon.com.pl @bascule@mas.to the above reads like bad faith trolling, but I'll engage for others who may be curious about why your rage bait is misguided. Lithium is far from the only battery chemistry in use, especially for grid based batteries. We also have an abundance of it right now, since 2022. Only recently is demand starting to meet supply: https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/energy-storage-boom-strengthens-demand-outlook-beaten-down-lithium-2026-01-04/ LFP batteries are the most common grid batteries, and they use very little lithium compared to EV batteries. Sodium batteries, battery chemistries that use sodium instead of rare earth metal like lithium, are also now being mass produced. They work wonders for grid storage due to their repsonsiviness, excellent thermal curve and complete lack of thermal runaway, meaning they don't need HVAC like lithium does: https://electrek.co/2026/04/27/catl-sodium-ion-battery-60gwh-energy-storage-deal/ Battery tech is here, now. You can ignore it if you like, but the economics of it make nuclear an antiquated technology.

@jwd630 @CalcProgrammer1 @lemizy @Sheril there are $300 "auto switcher" power strips that let you plug a drying into one outlet and the level 2 charger into another and it smartly disables the car charging when you turn your dryer on. With one of these, you can use level 2 charger normally, and dont even need to pull a new electrical circuit. Keeps wear and tear down on the outlet too. https://www.amazon.com/Splitvolt-Amp-Splitter-Switch-Thousands/dp/B0B5FB89LG

@abhayakara @dangillmor If Comcast promoted their service by paying Andrew Tate to list him as a "prominent user" I think it would make sense to try to move off of them, yes. Comcast is a poor analogy though, as its often the single provider for a core service in an area. This is more like if CBS news hired Tate as a show host. Would you still watch CBS, or opt to find your news elsewhere?

If you want to have a face to face, feel free to have a video chat but otherwise I prefer you message me as I find it more efficient. That goes for when we are in the office too." You can start preventing the impromptu "face to face" conversations when in office by telling them to schedule a meeting, message or call you. That removes the "its easier in person" excuse because it removes their ability to interrupt you whenever they want in the medium they prefer. This will require you to set boundaries and push back, because people who do this a lot will keep doing it until you stop them.

@vonKordke@mastodon.com.pl @bascule@mas.to you absolute can by adding batteries and more high voltage lines to interconnect more grids and minimize the affect of variability at a local level. They build industrial solar where its very bright, and they build wind turbines where its nearly perpetually windy. As long as those sources are connected to more grids, we are fine. For other sources, nuclear can be fine but very slow to build so it should be a backup option and not a primary one. Hydro is a great baseload right now, but more dams is tricky. Geothermal looks better than nuclear, if nascent, and natgas generators can be converted to run on green hydrogen made with solar/wind that would otherwise be load shedding. Mix all of the generation of the above with an equally important change in consumption: heat pumps for HVAC and hot water, induction cooktops, and electric vehicles, and you can satisfy all energy needs with much, much less overall electrical generation than the mass total of electrical/fossil we use now. All it takes is building things that we can build today.

@abhayakara @dangillmor promotion is incentivising someone, because it generates money for them. Both Substacks and NYT best seller lists are marketing. The latter isn't some neutral statement on book sales, its a list that NYT currates with specific and secret criteria. The fact that you think it's neutral is part of that marketing.
