@chu@climatejustice.social @theory@xoxo.zone I was confused about this at first because there was a mass shooting this morning in Germany

@jrconlin@mindof.jrconlin.com isn’t this an argument for using AI to build everything and stop sharing code?

@linuxandyarn@hachyderm.io no prob. I sort of want a lot of this -chan–sourced shit to have similar reactions but everyone keeps laundering it into everyday speech. It kind of sucks.

@linuxandyarn@hachyderm.io @Viss@mastodon.social @catsalad@infosec.exchange @cR0w@infosec.exchange eh, no, I think the etymology is important…

@aphyr@woof.group you’ve hit the nail on the head, Kyle. This isn’t just a feature, it’s a whole product.
(I’m so sorry)

@mwl@io.mwl.io @catsalad@infosec.exchange who drives to a library?
Edit: everyone who reads this seems to think I want to hear about their life circumstances and why they are in an impossible situation where they must drive.
I assure you: I don’t need to hear any of this.

@aphyr loved the series! It may be unclear to you to what degree “stopping” _is_ quitting your job, even at non-AI places.
C-levels demand usage like they demanded RTO, and they have company dashboards showing token usage among coworkers. They’re cutting off paid access to good IDEs and saying “IDEs have no value now”. They’re suggesting AI commits needn’t be tagged as AI because they “shouldn’t be subject to more scrutiny than humans”. How many have the financial stability to oppose this?

@theory@xoxo.zone @chu@climatejustice.social @catflyhigh@troet.cafe oh of course. I’m just in Europe at the moment and saw the German news first so the opener felt a little close to current events
Totally agree on the framing though! “Our country just had over a thousand heat deaths” should be an embarrassment resulting in huge government spending to address the problem. It’s negligent, IMO

@StaceyCornelius@zeroes.ca the machine has been out of OS updates for eight years, I don’t really think new AI features will affect you much.
It probably isn’t too much consolation but every laptop since then has been substantially harder to work on… 2012’s not great but it’s also far from the worst 😞

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange are they crunchy like lucky charms marshmallows or chewy like peeps?

@octothorpe yeah I think it was a distant second to the _other_ anti-Muslim slur in the Afghanistan/Iraq war years but it just rang a bell with me (also because I was like “who raises goats here that’s pretty niche”)
And yeah the redistricting, hours after the decision, even before the official final formalities around the ruling itself are completed, is insane. Expected but jeez it’s rough out here.
Replying to
@octothorpe@mastodon.online wiktionary, mostly because it’s fairly descriptive and I don’t expect a lot of mainstream dictionaries to contain off-brand slurs. But it’s been one.
Pigfucker I can get behind (maybe not literally)

@pseudonym@mastodon.online @NiwlCraft@mastodon.art there is zero chance you’d win a suit about this in the US.

@aphyr is it not meant to be a comedy? It sounds like this is on purpose?
At least I hope it is?

@davidgerard i would love to see this picked up by mainstream media
This is “crazy anecdote local news broadcasts would spend 5m on” territory.
Go loud!

@cabel@social.panic.com oh right you play haha. Of course you know this.
It sort of bugs me is all

@0xabad1dea they make little bungie segments you can add onto the end of the lead so the impulse when it runs out isn’t so violent, btw
This is so good

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange ok I’m listening to the original and when is the “iconic clown” part?

@wdormann @Mer__edith it should probably be changed but you also have to weigh this against how many people would try Signal, see that it lacks message previews, and go back to SMS.

@halcy out of context this is very confusing. I was trying to figure out why tom was eligible for a nebula

@jplebreton@mastodon.social @ronanmcd@mastodon.green pulling through a crosswalk to turn (even without stopping first) is de facto legal.
Everyone does it and cops, surprisingly, don’t give a shit.
Podcast host just said they were “legitimately freaked out about [mythos]” and I just straight up immediately deleted the episode

@darius as someone who can’t remember the faces of loved ones when they leave the room I read this as “I can’t remember a single one” and not “there’s one I can’t remember”
Replying to
@pikesley @theory I remember when a woman said they were uncomfortable with a man following her to her floor at an atheist conference so he mocked her in a letter titled “Dear Muslima”, addressing an imaginary FGM-victim and stating “it’s bad what happened to you but at least you weren’t made uncomfortable in an elevator”
A person at work yesterday made a joke about Universal Paperclips _and linked to the game in the post_ and I lost 5+ hours playing through it.

@gaelicWizard @0xabad1dea I’m a Catholic-turned-atheist but I think this is itself a biblical allusion? During his 40 days in the devil (see “the temptation of Christ”) the devil appears and literally cites scripture to Christ (psalms). Lucifer (though not always equivalent to “the devil” or “Satan” or “beelzebub”) _is_ a fallen angel after all.
So the intent is probably to keep people on their guard against those from within that would use their own ideas against them.
Replying to
@0xabad1dea sure, attempting to understand is a good first pass, and can be for some time.
It shouldn’t be endless, and it isn’t the only tactic.

@jneen@unstable.systems @mirabilos@toot.mirbsd.org @baldur@toot.cafe well. Except it happened again when I got rehired and I need the pay and guess who learned their lesson the second time around.

@aphyr@woof.group I’ve looked up to you for over a decade for all you do and this is really disheartening and completely understandable.

@andypiper @bathtub_jen I just put a Shelly in a dumb coffeemaker. Been working perfectly for years now.
(It lets me have my phone alarm start coffee when I stop the alarm each morning. Normal buttons all work fine, can be used as regular too)
This cost $10. Idk why products can’t be like this (dumb but enhanced)

@paul@tapbots.social well the problem is less them using AI and more you seem to have something misconfigured that this alert was allowed to appear.

@ivory@tapbots.social Is there a way to just have an abbreviated link card when no image is provided? I'm fine with a text description (or no card at all) when the image is missing. My feed full of missing image icons is kind of annoying, but I like the images when they're present.

@theory he was literally responsible for a lot of us in the new atheism movement going “hey maybe we need some humanism and feminism an inclusivity in here” and him (and Hitchens, and Harris) basically doubling down on “no, disbelieving in god is all that’s needed for a better world”
