@cstross@wandering.shop 80s cyberpunk took it from reality. The authors noticed the sentiment and those visions and projected them to the logical conclusion. Techbros are the architects of cyberpunk they tried to warn us about. Cybernetics were about control. Stafford Beer's visions of invisibly controlling the society sound dystopian now, they were the blueprint for what we understand as dystopia today.

I'm having a personal war against my toilet flush. It's a cheap plastic device but I'm determined not to replace it. Just because I'm an angry old man. And because the planet is dying. I've already recreated one broken part in #OpenScad and replace it with a #3dprint , now had another battle, turned out it's just scale. But also it's not easy to put it back together so I was taking it apart over and over because ofc there's no manual for this piece of crap. I hope one day I'll replace it with 3d printed replacements like a ship of Theseus. And I'll publish all the parts as some kind of OpenFlush project. It won't be good because the original one is just a crappy cheap plastic device, absolutely not worth keeping. But I'm just stubborn, you know.

What it should be called? Or what it's called if there is such thing? I mean a dystopia showing a failed attempt at #solarpunk. A revolution that was good in general but went terribly wrong because the well-meaning people failed to recognize the true source of the problem, or just a revolution that allowed some corruption to persist and then the corruption overtook? And the honest people were cheering for it because it looked like what they wanted on the surface. #Omelanoma (Omelas melanoma)? #Greanwash? #Greenfash? Or just #dystopia?

I mainly wonder if we can just take the relevant ones from the extensive body of material and put a label on them. Not to read, but to have stuff to point to when people are doing stupid shit and calling it solarpunk. I'm currently writing an actual utopia. Obviously #zuzai, it's a slow process. It's been a year and a half already and I'm like 1/3 deep in the first draft. There's still a lot ahead of me. Ofc writing is not my full time job so I'm struggling with making the time to actually write. I like your parody dystopia/utopia. When structured as a comedy, spiced with a lot of humor, it might be so refreshing! It reminds me of the old polish adage "żeby tak chcieli źle, i też im nie wyszło" "May they wish ill and also failed at that"

Tak, zdecydowanie nie miałem na myśli teorii relatywizmu językowego, do którego poparcia zwykle jest ten fałsz językowy używany. Chodziło mi o ideę odwrotną - że jak społeczeństwo czegoś używa, to pojawiają się na to słowa. Np. Statystyczny Polak z ulicy wymieni od ręki co najmniej pięć odmian jabłek, ze trzy odmiany ziemniaka i kilka gatunków grzybów, podczas gdy Amerykanin z ulicy zna tylko apple, potato i mushroom, nie dlatego, że w Angielskim nie ma na to słów ale dlatego, że to nie jest używane. A hindus będzie znał z 5 odmian platanów, których nawet u nas nie ma bo tyko cavendishe mogą przetrwać podróż do Europy.

Any #romani people here? I want to depict romani ppl in a #scifi #solarpunk novel. At the same time I want to avoid both romanticizing and stereotyping. There's a long history of media doing both. If you have any advice on how to be respectful and cool about it, that would be great. So far my idea is for the romani to keep being traveling, but instead of coaches there will be plasma vacuum zeppelins. I want them to have colorfully painted gondolas. I also want an old woman to correct a false prophecy, calling on a thousand of years of cultural experience in divination vs wannabies gadjos. Is that okay? Any suggestions? Zauważyłem niesamowite ubóstwo języka polskiego w nazewnictwie rowerów i teraz staram się przepropagować język polski w solarpunkową przyszłość, gdzie różne typy rowerów są codziennością i mają swoje słowa. Tak jak Inuici, którzy mają 50 określeń na rodzaje śniegu, społeczeństwa mają nazwy na istotne dla nich rzeczy. Zobacz wyrazy bliskoznaczne słowa rower. Bicykl? Welocyped? Nikt tak nie mówi bo to tylko kalki językowe niezgodne z polską fonotaktyką. Typy jakie mamy to damka, góral, tandem, kolarka i składak. Prezentuję moje pomysły. Ramka - metonimia na rower z ramą typu diament, analog określenia damka. Redukuje patriarchalny sznyt z języka, gdzie domyślny rower to rower męski. Ot, ramka i damka, dwa podstawowe typy rowerów. Może badacze etymolodzy będą pamiętali, że damka to był "rower damski" ale w mojej solarpunkowej przyszłości damka to damka a ramka to ramka. Leżak - rower leżący, recumbent. Niby oczywiste ale się nie spotkałem. Kolak - kwadrycykl (boże jak ja nienawidzę słowa kwadrycykl) rowerowy samochodzik na dwa/cztery stanowiska do pedałowania jak teraz w miejscowościach turystycznych.
