@jblue@mastodon.world Interested in recipes. They make really good salads fresh or lightly wilted with oil and acid, then cheese bits thrown in. Not sure what I'd do with dried though

@Lana@beige.party Agreed. But at least some of those people are beginning to turn away from Maga. I heard it in a pool hall on the south side of Tupelo last night. I wasn't expecting a pair of disabled vets and a couple of MC members to go on a tirade against the current regime...while apologizing to me if they offended me by talking politics

@jblue@mastodon.world I've also used fresh with mashed potatoes to make a southern colcannon. Lots of garlic and butter of course. With dill compounded cream cheese. I may need to make second dinner after thinking about that.

@Lana@beige.party And for every big landholder, there's a dozen or more with 5-50 acres of crappy land and some small livestock (chickens, ducks, goats, maybe a pig or two). They are strapped. Everything they own has a loan against it. They can't afford two years of $6 diesel and $1k/ton fertilizer. Another 30% rise in chicken feed over the winter means the kids are going on a rice and beans diet starting in November.

@Lana@beige.party There are some that are legitimately rich. Many more are land rich, capital & cash flow poor...mortgaged to the gills for equipment, seed, fertilizer, and the land. It's been really crap the last few years with the loss of export markets, fertilizer & chemicals going through the roof. It's put a lot of farmers up against the wall. I was in what used to be a very red-hat burger place a couple of weeks ago, watching an old guy handing out fliers for Schoffner, who's running against Cotton. He didn't convince everyone there, but they were definitely listening. He probably is one or two more bad seasons from having to go chapter 12 on around 20k acres. There's lots more like him, and they swing a lot of opinion in the outlying counties. Is arkansas going to go blue? Very unlikely. Is it going to change the mind of the wannabe manosphere influencer running a crossfit gym next to the dollar general? Definitely not. Will it be enough to change the outcome of some races? I think so.

One friend is doing a pheasant hunt at the end of this month and has promised me all the inner bits so I can make boudain. Never made boudain with pheasant before, but I'm betting it'll be tasty.

I think I was the only one who ever serviced it (mid 80s, brake cleaner and lithium grease). In the early 2000s I tried to ride it. Fixed the tires & chain, but it wouldn't shift. Pulled the side of the hub, filled it with diesel overnight, a little percussive exercise for the mechanism, and some cable tightening, and it was fine. I did about 100 miles on that bike in a couple of weeks

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe No. If you have any out on the agreement that doesn't cost you your business, end it completely. They are not the same company you began negotiations or signed a contract with. A full renegotiation is a good place to start, with a dedicated 'real human' clause, and a base rate of 150% last rate...plus a minimum retainer of what they spent last year. For the real human clause. The new rate is last year hourly * 1.5. Correcting any issues with a root or contributing cause traceable to the use of LLMs or any other form of generative "Ai" will be billed at twice new rate, plus a base callout fee of two hours as the complexity of resolving problems created by an unexplainable algorithm are at least twice as hard.

I stood uncomfortably in front of multiple Texas Public Utility Commission meetings in the late 90s explaining* why we had dropped phone service for a couple of zip codes for part of an afternoon. Today, that's the expected level of service.

@munin@infosec.exchange I've been proposing a 10% premium on electric and water, dedicated to relief of back bills for seniors, disabled, etc. Some of the local politicians have been receptive. None have listened when I said we should get property tax in advance at a discount for the data center owner, just in case they're broke next year.
