I realized on Tuesday that it’s been slightly over a year since I gave up Windows on my daily driver PC which I sit at for 8-12 hours a day. Sure doesn’t seem like it’s been over a year.
I’d really like to say I’m a lot smarter in the year of being a Linux and FOSS evangelist but I don’t think I am. I have learned a little bit, though 🤷🏻♂️

Well, I’m back in Burbank for another chance at TPIR tomorrow. @jillianmarisa@rosafamily.social and I have morning tickets. If one of us wins a car, guess we’ll have to get some extra days off to drive home. I’ve wanted to “do” Route 66 since I was a kid, and it IS the 100th anniversary. And the end of 66 is 25 miles from here. So, basically… We really need to win. 🌈

Speaking of BS fees. We've had a "2021 Winter Storm" fee on our bills for years now. "It must be about time for that to be rolling off" I think to myself as I look it up... 👀
The Missouri PSC has given them SEVENTEEN years to "recoup their losses" through this fee.

Tell me something well-known in your area of expertise which muggles (outsiders) are unlikely to know, but could benefit from knowing.
I'll go first. Americans have an obsession with non-native plants and trees. We literally tear down native trees, build our subdivisions and then replant with European and Asian stuff. It's NUTS. This greatly affects wildlife, pollinators, birds, etc. Additionally, this advantages introduced nonnative and/or invasive species. It's a double-edged sword.
Plant something native and watch the explosion of wildlife.

Random anecdote for your Wednesday evening: While we have multiple rubber feed pans, our hens prefer to be fed from the random hubcaps we found in Grandpa’s shed, which is now their VERY comfortable coop.
Someday I need to see what they belonged to; “I feed my chickens from the hubcaps of a 79 Oldsmobile” -or whatever- would be a hoot.

Wow. Burger King discontinued the impossible whopper. They were the last national burger chain with a vegetarian-friendly option, and were the ones which led the way. In 2019 @jillianmarisa@rosafamily.social
and I flew across MO to STL where they were trialing it in the early days.
I just deleted my account. That was the only reason we went every now and then. Such a disappointment.

I don’t want to consume #AIshit but imagine I unwillingly already am. I have to use it at work. Nothing is black or white and I’m closer on the spectrum to anti-AI than I am to slopper. All that said, using an AI tool to assist with human code review seems pretty OK to me.
Look at all of the vulnerabilities Mythos has discovered, and to some extent helped to remediate. There has to be a middle ground. @stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social

I wonder if they could have delivery confirmation to determine which ones USPS refuses to deliver or loses, and then use UPS (or ugh, FedEx) to deliver the remainders? Hmmm.
For months I've had issues with my AudioEngine speakers developing a hum. I've swapped cables, reconnected a million times, ditched the motherboard audio jack for a new external DAC, upgraded from 3.5 MM aux to RCA, even changed the main guts in the powered speaker. Nothing corrected the issue.
I just remembered that my "office" is split between two AC outlets: One is grounded (newer) where the powered speakers are plugged in, and the other isn't (original to the house) which powers the UPS/PC etc. Now running a short three-prong extension cord from the grounded outlet to the UPS... So far, no hum. Was it seriously this easy? 👀
I need to return a package at my own expense (long story) so I found parcelmonkey to rate shop. I was ready to buy, but they wanted me to create an account so they could give my data to Meta who I've long since broken up with.
Hard pass for me. GTFO with that BS. I used Paypal and saved a buck.
