Lucretia Dalt - Anticlines Another #bandcampFriday delivery from this adventurous sound artist #vinyl @vinylrecords@fedigroups.social #experimentalMusic #WomenInMusic #noiseros #NowPlaying

@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social @futurebird@sauropods.win And to be fair, it's not the story that is great. It is the world building -imho - the plot drags terribly at many points in the series and relies heavily on implausible crises.

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social Ecca Vandal - Ghosts https://eccavandal.bandcamp.com/track/ghosts

@shotgunseamstress@counterforce.social Back in the mid-to-late #80s my pals and I ran a loose art group (Archbishops Talent Exposure Collective) that did lots of one off guerrilla art projects - punk meets performance art with no budget and little concern for audience or safety. Was glorious fun.

@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io @benroyce@mastodon.social This resonates. I am white, but have spent my career working in communities of color. I saw all the bigotry you describe, but couldn’t get people to believe me about it. Now more white people see it and believe it. What I am less sure of is whether this visibility has reduced the frequency of the behaviors. Does the visibility impact the perpetrators? I mean, the bigots brag to me all the time about their bigotry because they think I am on their team. Here in Seattle, I am regularly approached by the bigots for that quiet racist or sexist comment because I am a grey haired white dude with a beard. They assume I must agree that the problems come from our tolerance of “those people “ - they are proud to share their vile view. It’s an intractable problem we (white people) need to solve.

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social She brings attitude

Some #bloomscrolling

Next up in our patriotic song list is from Tom Waits https://youtu.be/er4vgQvDMIw #Americana #blues #protestMusic

For our next patriotic American song we have Dolly Parton https://youtu.be/UbxUSsFXYo4 #ProtestMusic #Americana #CountryWestern

@Mudlark@bark.lgbt @benroyce@mastodon.social I think bit may be because the internet archive was lending complete copies and the AI slop is not. But I ain’t a lawyer, so…

@Sheril@mastodon.social I liked it. Good choice.

Next up in our series of patriotic songs for America is from Consolidated https://youtu.be/ZfTAans2mkY #ProtestMusic #HipHop #Americana

@airadam@mastodon.me.uk Do not be content with ‘content’ - agreed.

@Nonilex@masto.ai Yeah. Fuck that guy. He is a disaster and I can’t believe she apologized for the discussion getting “contentious” - she should have apologized to the viewers that they had to be subjected to so much BS.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Too many musicians for everyone to know them all. Even the famous ones. We used to play à game that was filling in the blank of ______ is the Bob Dylan of _________. Tom Waits is the Bob Dylan of LA. Townes Van Zandt is the Bob Dylan of Country Westen. Caetano Veloso is the Bob Dylan of Brasíl. So, “Leonard Cohen is the Bob Dylan of Canada” works.

Next up in our series of patriotic songs for America is from Nina Simone https://youtu.be/LJ25-U3jNWM #ProtestMusic #BlackClassicalMusic

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social The highlight of most shows by The Jonny Cats was when we played our cover of Strychnine- it was fun watching the rest of the band listen in amazement when I played it for them and said we should cover it. They were all Gun Club, Jonny Thunder, Tex and the Horseheads fans - so I decided they needed something from the origins of all that in their repertoire.

Next up in our series of patriotic songs is one from Max Roach https://youtu.be/Pyq4DFNsOdU #ProtestMusic #SoulMusic #Jazz #Americana

@Mudlark@bark.lgbt @benroyce@mastodon.social The recent lawsuit on this issue did not go quite that way as I understand it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachette_v._Internet_Archive

@W6KME@mastodon.radio @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org It spawned interest in legitimate artists from other parts of the world too and may have contributed to the success of artists like Belefonte, Makeba, and Guy Warren. Some serious jazz records resulted as well. One that comes to mind is Art Blakey’s Drum Suite (1957, iirc).

@teledyn@mstdn.ca @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org The updated version is Taylor Swift and Nas ;) You can play the same game with - Dolly Parton of______ James Brown of ______ Serge Gainsbourg of ______ Captain Beefheart of _____ Nick Cave of ______ But most of them fit some variation of the Bob Dylan of ________

Next up in our series of patriotic songs for America is from Woody Guthrie https://youtu.be/XaI5IRuS2aE #ProtestMusic #Folk #Americana

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social It’s a good movie and the soundtrack is excellent indeed.

@rachelcholst@linernotes.club Really looks like you just pull straight up. I would end up breaking it - I am sure.

@msbellows@c.im @blogdiva@mastodon.social I find Pynchon’s exploration of racism and misogyny to be complicated, but in the end it feels like him trying to deal with his own misogyny and racism. But, in the book, the character is white.

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt Heteronym content always makes me feel content

@DeliaChristina Fucken fucks.

@qurlyjoe That’s a stupid idea. ;^)

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social Sounds cool. Looks like it is on #bandcamphttps://cheer-accident.bandcamp.com/album/sever-roots-tree-dies

@Lone@climatejustice.social Welcome https://theprickofathorn.bandcamp.com/track/stoner-girl

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social It is indeed a good one, but I must admit I have a special place in my heart for Shoulder to Shoulder (with South Wales Striking Miners' Choir) from the year before.

@Whiskeyomega@cupoftea.social "cheap tonearm not the vinyl" - probably true, but the vinyl shouldn't be mastered in a way that it is only for high-end equipment without saying that up-front. Some of the Blue Note re-issues have this problem...mastered too loud for most turntables.

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social Cool. Will need to track this down.

@Trek_Academy@tenforward.social @startrek@fedigroups.social Follow up with The Academy Philosophy Professor’s old band https://archive.org/details/WaltzBopShop_idears_live

@gloriousnoise@heads.social @vinylrecords@fedigroups.social As a Funkadelic fan, I ask - If you were to own ONE Parliament album, which would it be?

The second track in our patriotic songs list is from Childish Gambino https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY #Americana #HipHop #ProtestMusic

@benlockwood@ecoevo.social WTF?

@sezduck@twit.social By definition

RE: https://c.im/@icastico/116862001911743023 It's #bandcampFriday so all of your purchase will go to charity if you buy and aboombong release. If you buy on mirlo space instead, some of your money will go to support mirlo space
