"As for the stuff in your computer that pretends to correct your punctuation or grammar, disable it. These programs are on a pitifully low level of competence; they’ll chop your sentences short and stupidify your writing. Competence is up to you."

what's with all these hyperspecific names for the full moon? i'm going to start making up moon names too
this month is the wombat butt moon because the moon looks like a giant wombat butt. next month is the leaf sheep moon because leaf sheep are cool
No time to look at the news, I'm busy with important things
Also never forget John Howard's legacy as Prime Minister:
- He refused to apologise to the Stolen Generations, and said even acknowledging it was "black armband history"
- He dragged Australia into America's illegal war, despite historic public opposition
- He oversaw the creation of a surveillance state in Australia
- He and his cronies enriched themselves while selling out Australia's natural resources (he's the reason our petrol and power prices are so high right now)
- he blocked any action on climate change
- he used Australia's relative strength to spy on, bully, and steal from smaller Pacific nations
- he imprisoned and demonised refugees and lied about it for political gain
For some reason the media still lionises him. Never forget that he's a racist little toad who set our country back decades. Always was, always will be.
I've been watching Gruen since its first episode. It's important to have a show on the ABC that analyses advertising, but man the way they do it is pernicious. Every expert on their panel is someone who works in advertising. They never have a media analyst, or an academic, or a researcher in the field, or someone from the ACCC ... or even a person on a low income.
It's such a dangerous way to frame this thing that affects us all so much – that only the people tricking us have the expertise to talk about the tricks.
Keeping the mutual obligations, keeping the privatisation but adding a couple of hoops for job agencies to jump through. Not increasing unemployment to a livable amount.
The government of tinkering round the edges.

"Australia’s steep cigarette excise increases and restrictive vaping policies have fuelled a massive illegal tobacco market while undermining the country’s long-standing harm-minimisation approach to public health."

Everything Is Going to Be All Right
By Derek Mahon
How should I not be glad to contemplate
the clouds clearing beyond the dormer window
and a high tide reflected on the ceiling?
There will be dying, there will be dying,
but there is no need to go into that.
The lines flow from the hand unbidden
and the hidden source is the watchful heart.
The sun rises in spite of everything
and the far cities are beautiful and bright.
I lie here in a riot of sunlight
watching the day break and the clouds flying.
Everything is going to be all right.
people really be out here screaming over spiders while they spend all day on something called "the web"
"We have trains," said one spokesperson.
"Lovely trains. They are pretty fast in places but for the most part, they travel at a sensible and safe speed."
MyGov: 1am is a good time to send messages. No one will be awake and so they won't lose any sleep seeing a message from Centrelink 😇
@oscarjiminy@aus.social I think that would help a lot, especially at Centrelink. Part of the reason it got so bad is that it's been starved of funds and half its staff have been replaced by private contractors.
We also need strong whistleblower protections. Our current laws punish people who call out wrongdoing - it's a perfect setup for generating corruption.
@Opfoss@c.im Yeah that worked so well for the UK and the EU
Is it seagulls?
