@graemeinnes@mastodon.social The government cares even less about jobseekers than they do on the aged and disabled. Which is, very little.

#auspol #UN Pearls and Irritations. Australia shouldn’t get a seat at the UN Security Council. Senator David Shoebridge skewers the hypocrisy of Australia’s PM.

Oh dear … my upstairs neighbour has been pleasant, helpful and above all, QUIET. He is moving out. As I had wondered, he has been unofficially ‘subletting’ from previous tenant, known forever in my mind as Hell-on-wheels. Person moving in is family member of previous tenant. I have encountered them some years previously; I need to give them the benefit of the doubt. Worrying also that previous tenant might be around here more. The prospect is not encouraging. I recall that when my unit was reclassified from community housing to public housing, one of the organisers jokingly said to me, “And may God have mercy on your soul.”
It’s a second-cup-of-tea day. Also chocolate. Double chocolate 🍫 🍫

@sortius@beige.party @graemeinnes@mastodon.social It needs a different name. New Labor? Faux Labor? Ersatz Labor? Because it sure as hell isn’t real Labor. You’re right; it’s intentional, cruel. It’s a question of priorities, and AUKUS tops the list

A new thing, sculpture(?) in Garema Place, centre of Canberra. Sciences, “Meet glorious Wally.” This refers to Canberra’s very own floral emblem, the Royal Bluebell, Wahlenbergia gloriosa. Not sure if this is only here because of Floriade or whether it’s permanent. Not going to give an opinion at this stage, will see whether it will “grow” on me.

@sisterratched@social.vivaldi.net I remember the fall of his father, the Shah. We do not want to go back to those days. Seems like some people don’t learn from history.

@sisterratched@social.vivaldi.net Exactly, a pipe dream, unless we deal with our racism. I heard elsewhere that Nyadol Nyuon was leaving. 💔 I saw the first few minutes of the forum. Might be mistaken, I think when Speers first introduced the panel, he didn’t say her name. He said something like ‘community representatives.’ I gave up at that point

Gentle stroll around the block in the sunshine. Checked in on the proteas. Saw a bird, ID says Australian King Parrot. Managed to catch only one pic before it flew off.

Re new clothesline installed in my public housing laundry area. The one that’s too high for me to use. It’s gone through two levels of complaint, and the answer? Use another clothesline. You win some and lose them.

Went into Aldi, picked up a couple of kiwifruit. Went to checkout, paid for them. At home I found I had three kiwifruit in my bag. One free kiwifruit! Now I feel like a criminal.👀

@maudenificent@aus.social @tallandtrue@aus.social @RHW@mastodon.au I used the contact form for the Prime Minister‘s office, expressing my shock and disgust. Little good it will do, but that felt better than my usual complaints to Members of Parliament and Senators.

I went for a walk around the block. I say walk, it was more of a hobble. Wonderful to get outside and in the sun. Unfortunately, 50 m from home, I tripped and almost fell. Saved myself by putting all my weight on my right (bad) foot. As a consequence, OMG Bad Foot is back, in full force! Please enjoy the first Proteas that are emerging.

@maudenificent@aus.social @tallandtrue@aus.social @RHW@mastodon.au according to the ABC News article, Osborne asks all her guests the same set of questions at the end of her podcast, including a rendition of "shag. marry, date.” Knowing this, why is the P.M even on this show? The tenor of the interview was apparent when he answered her questions about his sex life with his wife.

Walked yesterday, as a result Bad Foot is now Worse Foot. I really need an accurate diagnosis, maybe thinking outside the box. 🤔🤨p.s. not asking for advice, just commiserations!

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone @smitjo@mastodon.au You were just a few years behind me in #highschool. I was in the last year of the Leaving certificate. But did abysmally, had to repeat (Could Do Better). There was a gap of a year between us and the next class. So I and every other person in town who was going to repeat, were all put together in one school (my exam results were equally abysmal, but in different subjects). Then off I went to Teachers College, where again there was a gap. A whole bunch of people enrolled, some as midlife crisis change of career. Fascinating bunch, whole range of ages.

Laundry has been improved! Keypad on main door replaced; other door has been replaced but still waiting on keypad. Two brand new dryers, to replace one not working; other one working but screeching like a banshee. Washing machine, which has been vandalised with paint for the last several months, has been replaced, with a new one. Old table with protruding nails has been replaced, looks so much better. Also works as an actual table. It’s all go here!

@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone @smitjo@mastodon.au I imagine it was very different to most people‘s experience around that time. School itself was a curate’s egg - parts of it were excellent. Otherwise, not so much. No understanding of intuitive learners! It’s a miracle I ever ended up with any further education.😁🤣

@John@fairdinkum.one Actually, no. Don’t know what I was thinking there for a minute. It’s the standard Hills Hoist type, except a newer version. It arrives with the ribs and lines pre-attached, like an upside down umbrella. Attached to of the central post, and opened. The ribs don’t lie completely flat, but slightly upwards. I can reach the innermost, tiny line; not the outermost ones.
