Sometimes companies have really clear mission statements!

For instance, look at this beauty from the Ukrainian company firepoint (https://firepoint.technology/en/about-us/).

Let us wish them the best of luck with their mission!

Yes, I do not doubt that physicists strive to find analogies and metaphors, but the probem is that many people are starting to believe that the map is the territory, and that is a serious error. If physicists cannot communicate without making it seem that they have discovered parallel universes ,then perhaps they shouldn't communicate at all until better ways of explaining are found? Right now, this is basically destroying science.

@meltedcheese@c.im @kibcol1049@mstdn.social @Jonricha@hoosier.social The cure is after all very easy. Demand empirical proof, like science has always done. If this test is consistently applied, before "enobling" theories with the stamp of science, then a lot of these problems will vanish. Today, billions are poured into nonsense since there is no empirical grounding.

I press my menu button, I type "wr" (the beginning of the word write) press enter, and then I write in something which looks 99% like microsoft word before they messed up the GUI with the strange "bar". If people think this is too much, and if people refuse because the icons are not in the exact same position as in O365, again, people will _never move_ and they show they do not care after all.

@r1w1s1 This is the way. But why nvi instead of vim or neovim? It is interesting as a teacher, when teaching people with only ipad or windows experience. After my linux class, about 10%-20% of the class come to me and say they had no idea that it was possible to become so fast at accomplishing things on the computer. The terminal opened their eyes to a completely new way of using computers. They go on to become great technologists.

This is especially common in "climate science" and in theoretical physics, giving us such nonsense as multiple worlds and dimensions which some people seem to take a literal truth. And don't even get me started on the environmentalists, the biggest sinners of them all.

@jon@social.vivaldi.net The problem here is assuming that people care. I often bring this up to both people around me and to journalists, and except for when Trump was ranting the most about blocking europe from US cloud services (at which point I did manage to get an article published) _no one cares_. I think people in general are not smart, and they hate change. I've given up completely on democracy and the capabilities for independent thought, when it comes to the common man.

Age verification and surveillance coming full force, to europe.

Good summary of the situation here:

Age verification for social media – the beginning of the end for a free internet? | Mullvad VPN

So-called age verification for social media is spreading across the world, framed as an effort to create a safer internet for children. In reality, age verification lays the foundation for a fully government controlled internet.

@jeffcliff@shitposter.world It is fascinating how long discussions can last in the field of philosophy. But that tends to happen in a field, where you have no immediate error correction in the form of empirical evidence. Then, from time to time, the latest and greatest findings in science seep through, alter the course of the discussion in philosophy, and it then tries to integrate the new findinds. The interplay between quantum physics and philosophy is a very interesting example for instance.

What they feel like, when compared with the captains of industry, and old wealthy family, should certainly not, in my opinion be used to set their salaries. After all, in my business, if an employee would say they want a higher salary because they will envious of another, I'd laugh them out of the room.

But... if we broaden the scope to include the channel islands, and caribbean, then you do have a point! But I imagine that the benefits of those low tax areas, accrue in those very same areas, and do not spread to include the UK.

If something is too good to be true in medicine, it probably isn't true.

Why is no one looking into this?

If you don't pay tax, you cannot vote, and you cannot become a politician. When it comes to politicians, there can be IQ requirements, requirements for an academic degree, they must pass language tests, they must have worked in the private sector for at least 20 years, we want no life time public leeches.

I pay either 7% or 17%, 7% is almost acceptable, 17%, is borderline criminal. If gambling is legal, how come Malta and Cyprus attract so many gambling companies and not the UK?

@kibcol1049@mstdn.social The only two solutions I can think of are...

  1. Sink the boats. Once immigrants realize this, they will go to the EU instead of risking this.

  2. Deduct the money it costs to patrol and handle immigrants from foreign aid, and if that is not enough, play hardball and add the cost to exports to the country or region the immigrant comes from.

A 3 can of course be to lower the cost of handling them. That is, water and bread, no hotels, immediate shipment to rwanda,
