I think there is a valuable distinction between LLM-sourced code and LLM tool calls. Both are potentially problematic but have different threat vectors.
LLM-sourced code is a non-deterministic system writing deterministic code. We can still code review it.
LLM tool calls is a non-deterministic system taking non-deterministic actions via deterministic tools. This can’t be code reviewed and must be sandboxed.

@mcc@mastodon.social @cwebber@social.coop The original post was all about an LLM taking non-deterministic shell level actions at runtime. And you conflated that with deterministic code written by an LLM.
What I wrote is very relevant.

@cwebber@social.coop @vv@solarpunk.moe If a local model is calling tools then it is still vulnerable to prompt injection.

@vv@solarpunk.moe @cwebber@social.coop This is a good point. For now, local models are not proficient at tool calling. I don’t expect that to last for very long though.

@mwichary@mastodon.online A so-called chat interface is the holy grail that users have always asked for. i.e. “Why can’t I just tell the dang computer what I want and it gives it to me?”
But users are discovering what designers knew a long time ago:
- Users don’t know what they want as much as they think they do
- Users don’t want to deal with details from a lower level of abstraction

@codebyjeff @cmconseils Attention Mastodon. All future jokes must be supplied with a peer-reviewed study of authenticity. Absolutely no AI slop, or reposting jokes allowed. Inappropriate laughs will result in organized shaming campaigns. You have been warned.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange How am I supposed to check if the page matches. Sites have been changing their headlines in realtime multiple times on the day that they post it for years. For all I know the headline could not match because it was rewritten by an AI or a human.
