You are absolutely right! I should not have injured a human being or, through inaction, allowed a human being to come to harm!
Are you as tired as I am of seeing scroll containers everywhere? That they make all interfaces wobbly and give a feeling of poor construction? Like you can’t rely on things if they are not stable and move that easily for no good reason
BTW solved P = NP over the weekend
Up-right, right, right, up-right, down. Fatality!
Thinking of changing my first name to Claude, should be easier to find a job that way
TIL that 1.44 MB floppy disks were neither 1.44 * 1024 * 1024 bytes nor 1.44 * 1000 * 1000 bytes, but...
1.44 * 1000 * 1024 bytes!

Jira patch viewer already was my favorite thing (page marging! page breaks!) but today I looked under the hood and it is even more hilarious.
Apparently patches are rendered as SVG (!!! for text!), and at what appears to be 1/4 of screen resolution somehow, and then scaled up with nearest neighbor. On top of that all, text selection/copy-paste doesn’t work.
Thank god it’s staying ahead of times with AI

Sublime Text is great not because it froze in time, but because the time it froze in was the best time for software.

Wow. Pepsi brand manual from 2008 is indeed hilarious. https://www.goldennumber.net/wp-content/uploads/pepsi-arnell-021109.pdf

I just realized Anthropic CEO’s prediction that 90% of the code will be written by agents did come true. But not in a sense that existing projects will switch to agents. Github currently sees 10x more code, right? And all that new slop comes from LLMs. That’s exactly 90%!
Websites that intercept clicks on links and break cmd+click, middle mouse click, copy link etc as a result.
I’m not mad, I just want to understand. What are you trying to achieve? What, in a perfect world, can you do better with my click than what browser already does? HOW DOES ONE IMPROVE A CLICK?

I’m not sure what this means but Gregorian calendar kinda fits nicely on a traditional 12-hour watch face. 12 months, 12 hours. This shows Oct 4, for example

I am looking for work! Clojure, or, maybe, something native, closer to the metal. RT for reach please 🙏

@mwichary@mastodon.online Oh, it is maintained but they barely change anything. Like this was one of the bigger updates and it was 1 year ago. If you configure your color scheme and your font and rest of the settings you probably won’t need to touch anything for 10+ years. Even bigger releases (2 -> 3 -> 4) look almost identical (but add some nice APIs for plugins, optimize rendering etc) https://www.sublimetext.com/blog/articles/sublime-text-4200

@volpeon@icy.wyvern.rip aha, right, should’ve digged deeper. That explains the low-res rendering I guess, because SVG would be at least scalabel

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange pretty sure macOS let apps define hooks for uninstall when deleting from /Applications too. As for cleanup: most of the time it’s a good thing that app settings are not erased

@mwichary@mastodon.online re: https://unsung.aresluna.org/out-of-touch/, what does this screen do?
Replying to
@mwichary@mastodon.online I mean, I have been happy for many years. I enjoy that it doesn’t distract me and isn’t needy. Simple and elegant

@nini and even how to organize. I agree this is not a fault of minimalism, but it is a minimalism-motivated, or minimalism applied wrong

@tuomas_h A lot of people mentioned that to me in Telegram! I understand the problem, but somehow I don’t trip too much over it. I guess I am just very careful in general with UIs and wait a second after moving my mouse before clicking anything just in case. Forced habit :(

@nini I know, but then I bet all this was motivated by “let’s remove all elements to make it look less busy”

@valpackett@social.treehouse.systems I am from the industry and no, it doesn’t sound all that crazy. I am familiar with the excuses people usually make about those kind of things, but no, if anyone really wanted and cared, that shit would work in less than 1 frame on 120 Hz display. Besides, you don’t even need to load 40 icons. They are already loaded!
