Oh, Carol, given her reaction to your dad's death, I'm now suspecting that she's on so much valium, it won't faze her much. #Monsterdon #EarthvsTheSpider

In 15 minutes now, I'll be joining my #Monsterdon family for our usual Sunday hijinks.
As @CactuarJoe@retro.pizza said:
"Folks it is now less than an hour until #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party. If you want to avoid a flood of goofy toots about a monster movie, now's the time to set up a hashtag filter.
If you'd like to join in, this week's movie is WOLFEN (1981), in which a detective searches for serial killing werewolves. There's gotta be easier ways to earn dog catcher money.
The flick's available free with ads on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/100045177/wolfen
Or you can download from Archive.org over here: https://archive.org/details/wolfen.-1981.1080p.-blu-ray.-x-264-amiable_202208
Just hit play at the top of the hour and toot along! See you there :D

@bmoreinis@journa.host @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net @DoomsdaysCW@kolektiva.social Putting the costs of this mutated Tetsuo aside, it is not, nor can it ever be in this form, relied on. As an experiment, I asked ChatGPT for a list of ten poems with a certain theme to share with a student. Seven do not exist. I wish they did; they sounded perfect. And that's the issue, AI is not an intelligence. It is a data-driven mimic. They have fed it enough human information, that it picks out patterns in your queries, and responds with what has the highest likelihood of being an answer. Sometimes it's correct, but sometimes it's not. For the seasoned programmer or teacher, that's not ideal, but inaccuracies can be compensated for. For students and the juniors in their careers, this is a disaster.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @geppiegep@mastodon.nl This is why I still teach Shakespeare to my students, even though one complained at first that he was a "dead white guy from a long, long time ago," and why I make certain we watch a performance and not just read it.

@Natasha_Jay Okay, this is a cry for help. An extraterrestrial who has been stranded on Earth somehow got themselves trapped in the sweatshop that makes these hoodies, and he/she/they/it/gloot is/are letting us know so we can find and rescue them.

@IPEdmonton@mstdn.ca @eniko@peoplemaking.games I get it. I am a teacher at a private school. I am one of two members of a 21-person staff who has been masking on campus. To my knowledge, we are also the only two who have not had Covid. [IF either of us have, we were asymptomatic.]
My school’s policies have changed, and so I find myself unwilling to go through another fall/winter season in those less safe conditions. This is why I’ll be changing jobs in the near future.

“I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain to you how this works. I award you zero points and may your deity of choice have mercy on your soul.”
Well, that’s what I’m thinking, anyway. Usually, I just glare back.

@dormouse759@mas.to @dotjayne@tech.lgbt Studies have shown that wearing a properly fitting N95 mask does lower the risk of catching airborne viruses for the wearer. So wearing a mask is not just for others. Even the CDC mentions it here: https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/prevention/masks.html
Yes, it would benefit us all a lot more if those who were sick wore masks, or yet, just stayed home, but that does not negate the benefits of the things we can control - like masking, vaccines, and limiting exposure .
