🎷🦣 Mastoshare update — future of Mastoshare

Mastodon recently put a service that covers some Mastoshare functionality — sharing posts.

What that means for Mastoshare? Mastoshare was never about money, but with a goal of making better UX of Mastodon. I believe semi-centralized solution is the right way, as it has network effect — the more people use one website the easier it is for everyone.

@brucelawson@social.vivaldi.net faster how? if we optimize for first load — then yes, it will be faster. But for webapps that optimize for cross page transitions? There is a still last mile problem, the latency of just 100ms can lead to noticeable delays in best case scenarios. The "like-an-app" dilemma is that native mobile apps are loaded in advance with all their data from a store. The SPA might give similar capabilities when needed

@samkeeper@slime.global they are indeed showing the search page, this is the limitation of post links, for some reason different instances have different post IDs. I made search as a "good enough" workaround, because usually in the search results you're getting the post itself as first and only result and can immediately interact. This is also what I see when clicking the links. Do you see something different?

And moreover, since the system is not particularly deterministic it can degrade overtime, like in their recent post-mortem

If so, I see 2 ways that can be done: with browser extension that wraps all links in mastoshare link or if instance server (e.g. mastodon backend) will do links rewrites a-la LinkedIn as an option (which would be better). I'm exploring browser extension, but first wanna see the adoption of main service
