am I stupid or does mastodon not have a way of just going from someone's profile directly to a search of that person's posts/tags

this is so delightful to me because as a non programmer I realized, really quickly into working on A Host of Gentle Terrors, that if there was something I wanted the player to experience, it was easiest to simply *write it myself* rather than trying to procedurally generate it
and apparently these chatbots have arrived at the exact same conclusion: if you want the user to have an experience, just cheat lmao

I really want to believe in the small web on principle but it kinda feels like you have to fight an increasing number of world or provincial governments on one side and a massive army of botnet scrapers on the other, to say nothing of any given payment processor deciding to do a forensic analysis of whether your content adheres to their brand.
idk it's starting to feel like I should put my energy into xerox zine mail distribution networks instead or something

I wish mastodon reposting validation worked some other way than the kind of stupid way it works now where I get 422 errors all the time if I try to reblog something too quickly

after having a pretty retraumatizing experience and a subsequent week of really violent intrusive thoughts, the complexity of "I don't feel sorry for feeling this way, but I do feel upset at what it means about who I've become" resonates a lot.

one thing I legitimately don't know how to handle, with launching ideally multiple websites, is how concerned I should be about AI DDOSing me into either oblivion or bankruptcy. idk if there's even anything I can DO about it. makes me wonder if I should release my shit as interactive cd-roms instead

@itsnero@mstdn.itsnero.com I've actually been curious how much information about styling and layout can be passed via the rss/atom spec... like if you can transmit style sheets or inline styles that would inform the reader how the comic should be displayed...
though, I've noticed a decent number of webcomic rss feeds don't actually include the image! I guess maybe to force a click? or possibly just oversight lol a lot of people configure rss pretty haphazardly

@itsnero@mstdn.itsnero.com a built in ◄ ► functionality for browsing through a feed would be cool, and I wonder if there'd be an effective way to set some comics up to display as like a daily "funny pages" layout...
one of my biggest frustrations with readers I've tried so far is not being able to have separate UI paradigms for different types of content!

@SophiaSurname@shrike.club looking into it it seems like it's gotten a bit of a reappraisal. critics historically have been pretty mixed and afaict so have fans of pink floyd... I think probably people who aren't fans of pink floyd mostly just haven't watched it. Roger deriding the film probably didn't help its reputation for a while

@itsnero@mstdn.itsnero.com what do you think a webcomic reader would want feature-wise that's different to an article reader?
asking here too since I'd rather talk here than on bluesky lol

@itsnero@mstdn.itsnero.com btw idk if you knew this but there used to be someone who ran an rss service just for gocomics but the company got mad and got it shut down
aaaand now I no longer follow any of those mainstream strips on gocomics because they don't support rss natively but require you to log in instead 🙃 good work guys!

@lunalapin@slime.global there is not a lot of self awareness on display right now no
I sorta forgot, being in a bubble, how much fandom is still driven by "stop talking about meaning and start talking about lore"

fully respect the "no cgi is really just invisible cgi" push but I do think people are starting to do a subtle little motte and bailey where because competent looking movies use cgi, we shouldn't point out the overused-cgi slop house style of disney productions. but they do simply look like ass.

I didn't connect, till it was stated in the end, that Visaggio wrote Eternity Girl, one part of Gerard Way's abortive attempt to prod DC into doing bold Vertigo-style comics again. in retrospect it makes a lot of things about that book snap into place.

@itsnero@mstdn.itsnero.com that's fascinating cause I just checked through my rss reader and maybe a quarter or veeeeery generously and permissively a third of the comics I follow are things I'd call "all ages"
like that doesn't mean the other three quarters are all pornography, a lot of it is just mature themes, gore, &c, but like... limiting to "all ages" just cuts out so many comics I think of as The Big Ones

ftr I don't think this is a kind of dipole of possibilities, there's many ways to be or not be about something, what I'm reaching for is a kind of aspiration to obviously have themes or Character Lessons or whatever, but with this faintly hollow or half-considered way. a thing that aggressively wishes for you to understand that it's not just another dumb movie... but also doesn't really stand up to scrutiny or feel that sincere in its explorations

bravely finally taking the stand that Pink Floyd's The Wall is not just a film you should see because it's "actually really interesting" but because it's "actually a good movie"
all these movies are good btw though I think only All That Jazz is considered a Good Movie™

a shocking number of "progressive" youtubers started out analyzing art or well more accurately doing commentary on pop culture, and gradually realized they could get way bigger selling essentially overstuffed, politically palatable upmarket tabloids. someone should probably study that shit.

people will look at a brilliantly written and portrayed character positioned constantly as having a tense even hostile relationship to the player and legitimately be like "actually *he* is just a blank slate for the player to project onto"
