you should definitely at least have some idea what that sort of thing is and how it works (and how it doesn't work), but you could end up in a field where it's irrelevant and it shouldn't be taught at the expense of more fundamental things
(and meanwhile everybody with any sense wishes the world had no demand for such things)
you can, on the other hand, also completely ignore that flatpaks exist and still run most debian stuff just fine
