@Taweret@timeloop.cafe I apologize for being that guy, but to be more specific with the doozers, because I love this part: they build for the sheer love of building. Moki once convinced everyone to stop eating doozer sticks, and the doozers were devastated that they ran out of room to build. They are craftspersons, delighted to see others get use out of what they make. In return, the Fraggles freely provide the radishes the doozers use as raw material. Despite cultural differences regarding singing and dancing, the two communities live harmoniously, and I think that dovetails nicely with everything else you said. 😁

If I don't like what someone is saying in my house, I have every right to tell them to get out. They can keep expressing themselves somewhere else. Same with being "exiled" from an online space. There's loads of instances that champion free speech absolutism, and plenty that favour different levels of moderation. Join whichever one you want, and manage your expectations accordingly. It really is that simple.

If so, yes, I've read the reasons, and I agree, women are right to choose the bear over a random man, that's my point. Hanging up on "not all men," even though it's technically true that not all men are more dangerous than bears, only distracts from the problem that way too many men are dangerous to women, even beyond what a bear would do. Same with AIs, they can have legitimate uses, but those uses aren't what critics are objecting to, so it's beside the point. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on that.

I was shaken awake in the wee hours because I was screaming in my sleep.
I saw the teddy bear in the chair at the desk on the other side of the room, and its arms and legs began undulating like wind dancers, while its head and body remained still. That was too much for me, and I completely lost my shit and just started screaming. My daughter reached up from the side of the bed and started shaking my arm. Then I woke up for real, and it was my wife shaking my arm, because I was actually screaming, although it was more of a weak, falsetto scream. I told her I was having a nightmare, and her response was something along the lines of "no kidding." She offered me a hug, but what I wanted was space, so I got out of bed and sat in a chair, trying to shake all the images out of my head. I was exhausted, but short of breath, so I went downstairs to take my inhaler. I sat on the couch in the living room, but I could feel my head nodding, and a new dream starting while I was still awake. 4/11

I was shaken awake in the wee hours because I was screaming in my sleep.
Then I realized that the Rob and Larry I was talking to didn't look anything like my uncles, and there were a few other people in the room, none of whome I recognized. One of my uncles claimed to be Quentin Tarantino, pulled out a gun, and starting killing everyone. The dream turned into a time loop, and I kept trying to do different things to stop not-uncle-Larry-who-might-have-actually-been-Quentin-Tarantino from killing everyone, but he always did, and the loop would start over. I wondered if I could use process of elimination to figure out who, if anyone, in this loop was real, other than me. It turned out the only other person who was real was a naked young woman, who I hadn't noticed before. Everyone else disappeared, and I picked her up with my left hand, with my arm completely outstretched. She hung from my hand bent and twisted, like a sea creature pulled from the ocean. 2/11

She wanted to defect, and I was going to help her and her little sister escape. Together, we had established a way for me to jump from the compound in my reality to the one in hers, both of which were gravel lots with portable sheet metal buildings, and parked industrial vehicles. We had been doing practice runs of the escape by pretending that we were running training drills using "captured" red equiptment. I thought that we were ready, but [Woman I Loved] and [Little Sister] still had loose ends to tie up, so it wouldn't be today. [Little Sister] felt like a daughter to me, so I spent the rest of the day entertaining her by floating around on clipboards through the gravel lot, past the RVs and a random pond that some people used as a beach, as one does when one is in posession of clipboards with magnets strong enough to repel gravity. 9/11

Because of the naked woman's contortion, I thought she was disabled, so I took her down the stairs to put her to bed. Her bed looked more like a doctor's examination table, and she resisted when I tried to gently place her on it. She stood up on her own, and pushed me onto a couch. She straddled herself on top of me, and started kissing my face, saying things like "Shhh... it's okay... you don't have to take care of me, I'm here to take care of you..." This wasn't an innuendo, it didn't even occur to me at the time that it could be taken that way. It was far more disturbing than sexy, especially when she called me Homer, after I called her Lisa. We weren't the Simpsons, but still, yikes. I realised I was asleep, and I wanted to wake up. So I woke up, and I knew I was awake, because I hadn't been wearing my CPAP mask in my dream. The sheets were tangled around my arms and legs, and I was having trouble getting my mask off. 3/11

The dream changed, and I was inside the movie. Still cyberpunk, but more gritty, set in the streets between walls of skyscrapers, part shanty town, part open bazaar. I was some sort of operative, but the dream never specified if I worked for a criminal gang, resistance, corporation, or government. My fellow operatives and I were in enemy territory, playing a game of cat and mouse with enemy agents. On foot, we ran between market stalls, and through labyrinthine "employees only" areas behind them. A double agent lured me into an area I thought was safe, but I realized what was happening, and ran the other way, relaying a heads up to my group about the ploy. I met the others at our vehicle*, ready to make our exit. We would have to time our escape just right, because we had noted the locations of enemy sentries, who would spot us the instant we started moving. *Car? Armored Car? Hover Car? Flying Armored Car? Unclear. 7/11

There were people who wanted to protest this, of course, but protests were more limited in this dream than they are in reality. The protesters, instead of rallying anywhere, held a film festival. My friend Trey Parker* and I decided to go check it out. The movie started, and Trey and I were shocked to learn that the movie we had made together 20 years earlier had an underground cult following. It was being played with subtitles, and the audience was trying to say all the lines out loud at the same time as the actors, but they couldn't, because the movie was playing at double speed. Trey and I tried to tell everyone that the speed was wrong because the file format had changed over the years, and at first no one would believe that the film's authors just so happened to be present for this random screening. We eventually convinced them, and started explaining the movie. *Yes, that Trey Parker, no, we aren't friends IRL. 6/11

I see a lot of hate for cars and drivers too, and I usually agree with it. But I never see anyone saying "let's do away with ambulances and fire trucks," and I think it's because most people would take it as a given that those are worth keeping. But if I had to list ambulances, firetrucks, cement mixers, and every other exception whenever I complained about cars, I'd run out of characters, so the complaint gets shortened to just "cars." Likewise, "I hate AI" is the truncated version, rather than "I hate the type of AI that is built on stolen work, has received billions of dollars from multiple governments, requires unreasonable amounts of water and energy, reduces educational and creative outcomes, saves no work, because the code it produces has to be corr

Like, if we're lining up attitudes for comparison, I think "not all AIs" and "not all men" is a better match than "shun harmful tech" and "shun life saving tech." On the plus side, at least I was out of enemy territory. On the minus, I was lost, and unsure of how to get back to my home dimension. I decided the best course was to stay put, and started to consider my options, looking for some sort of transporter history, or seeing if I could find my home dimension in a list of known locations, or somehow extracting the information I needed from my remote. At this point I woke up again, feeling very light headed and disorented from how vivid and stressful my dream had been. It was 10:30am, but I was still exhausted, and struggling to wake up. I eventually got up, because I didn't want to have any more dreams, but I still spent most of the day feeling like I was about to enter some sort of fugue state or something. At this point I was pretty sure it wasn't the huge dinner or melatonin that was to blame. Moral of the story: don't skip your meds! 11/11

When I was little, my Mom told me I could stop a nightmare from coming back by flipping over my pillow. She later revealed that she had completely made that up on the spot, but I've been doing it so long, it's never not worked. So I flipped my pillow over and put my CPAP mask back on, but it still took me a bit of time to fall asleep. A completely different dream began, this time a high tech cyberpunk thriller in a city so developed, it was hard to tell what was indoor, and what was outdoor. Still every bit as real, vivid, intense, and stressful as the dream before. Megacorporations were so obsessed with advertising and propaganda, that all traffic had been changed to sliding sidewalks and escalators, all of which were video screens, and everyone was legally required to sync the sliding sidewalks with their phones. Everyone's commute had become standing still, their entire field of view filled with ads scrolling past. 5/11

@lowqualityfacts@mstdn.social This is a lie spread by flatulent pianists, a result of piano benches being uncushioned. The cushioning of piano benches was outlawed by the UN in response to flatulent pianists blaming the benches. This is why the UN has been working tirelessy to have all trumpets replaced with bagpipes, a move opposed by the UK government, due to the recognition of bagpipes as weapons of war. The reneging of this law would allow Count Binface to become Prime Minister, which would in turn lead to the voluntary reannexation of the western Unites States, causing a war between the new United States, and the old United States, who would obviously react to defection under Binface by electing Vermin Supreme as president. The world would become embroiled in a hot war fought with atomic rubber chickens, and only cockroaches would survive, which is why cockroaches from the future traveled back in time to give pianists persistent flatulence. You must withdraw this lie, or the time travelling cockroaches will win!

It was time for me to leave, so I returned [Little Sister] to [Woman I Loved]. I approached the inverted sattelite dish, but when I clicked my remote, I got an error message, there wasn't enough power. I reconnected and readjusted the power source for the sattelite dish and tried again multiple times, but it wasn't working. A screen came up, and I began talking to someone about why it wasn't working. It turned out that, because of tariffs, I either had to use a remote with its own power supply, or use the transporter's onscreen menu to use the transporter's power supply. My remote didn't have an independant power supply, but I didn't know what address was assigned to my home dimension, because my remote was just a silver box with two white buttons. I selected the top entry in the list of options, hoping it would be my previous location. It wasn't, and I was sent to an unfamiliar gravel lot with portable buildings. 10/11

The other operatives and I hung on to the outside of our vehicle. The route was selected, we picked our targets, and opened fire at the sentries as the vehicle sped off toward the extraction point. An inverted sattelite dish was suspended above a building, and once we were close enough, reality seemed to stretch sideways around me, and everything but us disappeared. We made it back to our home dimension safe and sound. You see, we were fighting a war with an alternate reality. In one reality, the city we fought over had been colonised and established by China. In the other, Jamaica. One group of operatives used exclusively red equiptment and vehicles, the other yellow. I worked for the Jamaicans, I think we were the red team. I was one of the top operatives, and in love with one of the top operatives from the other reality. 8/11
