What is totally illogical is that, even in France, train travel is often MORE EXPENSIVE to the traveller than either flying or driving! Although its total cost (to the planet, the environment etc.) is clearly far less.
These are political choices. The 2h rule could be managed through pricing/eco-taxation alone.

J'évite les sites avec le Captcha de Google et de toute façon j'ai uBlock sur tous leurs URLs (donc je ne vois pas non plus le pop-up "Connectez-vous avec Google", ce qui est une autre outil de traque, avant même qu'on se connecte... ou les autres outils, pixels codés etc.).
Je n'ai pas encore jeté mon Android mais ce sera pour bientôt.

The greatest danger from this is that the EU & the European tech community do not SEIZE this opportunity to develop an entirely non-US IT environment. (OS, apps, servers, cloud, social networks, security, etc.)
But this has been un urgent– and irresponsibly FAILING – necessity for the EU for decades already.
The least they should do is announce a plan & a schedule, so developers can work to it themselves. France's #Visio is a first major step. Many more needed.

What is very revealing is that Labour now see themselves as closer to Reform than to the #Greens.
The upside is that this should see SWATHS of disaffected once-traditional – but also young – Labour supporters going #Green.

ALL US Tech companies are subject to the #CloudAct, i.e. the US govt can commandeer all & any data collected by any US company anywhere in the world. But Starmer knows this, so his payback must be considerable!!

There is nothing "intelligent" whatsoever in "AI" anyway.
It's simply an Analysis>Search>Synthesis (or "ASS") algorithm built on statistical probability.

@Brendanjones They passed a similar rule on WhatsApp when Facebook bought it. FB said OK fine, then a few months later they just ignored it & centralised all User data anyway! Never heard of any penalty but if there was it was most probably simply absorbed into their accounts & forgotten about.

Not oblivious at all. The risks are for the general public. The UK govt will see only benefits in all that personal data! Remember, it's not Palantir that are paying for the data, it's the UK TAXPAYER via the govt that is PAYING PALANTIR to take it from them!!!

Switzerland actually has some decent IT systems & services & likely do not need Palantir at all (and ultimately, NO-one does!). Maybe the UK doesn't have the alternative? 🤷
