I've been shaving every day this week as I'm on holiday and want look presentable.

However usually I only shave every second day as I'm a delicate little flower and my face is a bit sensitive and tends to go a bit red and hot.

So told my wife i wasn't going to shave today.. had my shower, came out, dried off, then in a half-asleep fugue .. started shaving on autopilot XD i started so I really had to finish.

So my face looks like I've been slapped and my cheeks are radiating XD

Hmm.. best pack my razor away today lest I accidentally shave again tomorrow.. the glow would be visible for MILES !! 😆

Well.. it's spooky month. The *Temp* profile change seemed appropriate ;)

Just for October "For Pete's Sake " is temporarily renamed to "The Grim Peter"

And yes, that *is* me ;)

Top tip.. Keith's coffee and tea suppliers in Cirencester.. one (well two actually.. it was that good) of the best cups of coffee I've had in a long time.

Positively spiritual XD

I was at serious risk of turning into Kyle MacLachlan's Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks XD

@zzt@mas.to I love mine. I went from a sedentary 52 year old who was very overweight and could only cycle a short distance (ie to the shops back).. to a slightly less sedentary, less overweight 56 year old who happily does 20 to 30 mile loops around London and reaches AMAZING PEAK SPEEDS of a blistering 15mph.. 25mph if I cycle downhill. XD I still get a workout but not so much my heart explodes from over exertion !!!

OK, let's do this

#OneBadThing

Didn't sleep at all well last night. Was awake for toilet at midnight and again at 1:30 then up from 3am to 5:30am, got up at 8am.

However

#ThreeGoodThings #3GoodThings

  1. Had a good cooked (veggie) breakfast
  2. Got out of the house for a 2hr walk.
  3. Treated myself to a coffee and Danish pastry when out.

#3goodthings

  1. I cleared a lot of things off my to do list.
  2. Got my Sunday chores all finished early.
  3. Had some game time (Skyrim modded) on my PC

Good? Well, alright then three ok moderately pleasing things XD

I keep pondering the "3 good things" hashtag but I rarely post under it.

I find it very difficult to actually find three good things to mention each day.

Not that I'm suggesting my days are all bad but what exactly IS good and what is what it should be?

Ie ""Had something to eat" is that good? Or is that baseline expectation? I hope every day I have something to eat!

"Slept" ..again is this a good thing or baseline expectation. The mere minimum expectation?

At work we have a HUGE document that is called the "Definition of Done" that is, it specifies EXACTLY what steps and processes have to be completed for a piece of work to be considered "Done".

Code written, documented, tested, peer reviewed, loaded to internal test server, loaded to external test server for clients, source checked for potential exploits and weaknesses, etc etc etc.

it's a big, technical document, signed off by us developers, the testers, management and the client.

I think , for personal use, I need a "Definition of good"

Good should be something positive above that which I expect naturally. Achieving the bare minimum of rest, food, fun etc does not make a day GOOD per se. Instead NOT reaching these bare minimums make a day BAD.

Perhaps I need to start a #3BadThings hashtag :D

ie.

  1. Forgot to eat
  2. Had a rotten night's sleep.
  3. Had all my internal organs harvested by a low flying UFO.

You'll be surprised how often that last one happens! :)

Am watching a documentary on Prime called "Woodlands dark and days bewitched" which is about folk horror (Witchfinder General, Wicker man, Psychomania et al) and I noticed a talking head on the commentary wearing a rather familiar t-shirt ;)

A little promotion for @Richard_Littler@mastodon.social and @scarfolk@mastodonapp.uk ;)

They're now talking about "The Stone Tape". That scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid!!

Pre LLM limerick

"I have a little computer,
I think I'm going to sell it,
For it doesn't do
What I want it to
Only what I tell it"

Post LLM limerick

"I have a little computer,
I think I'm going to keep it,
Because it takes prompts I type
And though it feeds me tripe
At least it generates something I can pass off as my own and I know it doesn't scan or follow the usual limerick layout but it says my input was the bestest idea ever and really strokes my ego and makes me feel productive even though my silly little prompt probably cost more energy than an average house would do in day, at least I didn't have to think about what to write!!"

It's Saturday, lazy start to the day. Playing a little Skyrim AE ... again! However Skyrim is fun but Skyrim with 2000+ mods is... .... something else. I'm playing Gate To Sovengard collection with some extra of my own mods. (By own I mean both mods i always download and play with AND literally my own mods I've written) I've also some paid for creation patches that add new areas and quests. Really makes it a beautiful whole new game. Currently I'm avoiding the sun as, after a cave clear out, I seem to have developed a slight case of vampirism XD It's ok. I just "farm"* Lydia while she sleeps. She is sworn to carry my burdens after all ;) *I wrote "milk" initially.. that sounded soooo wrong 😅 #skyrim #gaming

Turns out it was actually advertising F1 .. as in Formula One,

So I have a day off work tomorrow and a day in London planned with a trip to the cinema at the end !!

I'm pretty excited as I don't get to have a "me" day very often but despite knowing I have "A day in London" I actually have very little idea what to do !!

I'll be mostly around the Southbank (my fave area and since I'm going to the BFI Imax later it seems appropriate)

I plan to visit London Fossils and Crystals down from Waterloo. (cos I collect fossils and minerals!) but other than that I have several hours to kill.

I don't even know where to eat :D hehe

I don't want to just default to a cr*ppy high street burger from the usual "Kentucky McKings" etc ;) but I also don't want a full blown restaurant meal.

Was thinking Giraffe or Wahaca for lunch.

But I imagine overwhelm will be an issue so I'll need some space where I can sit, relax and watch the world go past.

perhaps even I'll fit in a little retail therapy from the Bookshops and BFI store when I'm there.

However if anyone has ideas? let me know.

So, apart from some cleaning stuff on my desk and the obvious elephant in the room power drill/driver (which i was using to fix my desk) I'm "Tidy" (ish) I wouldn't be me without some clutter. I need to plug my lights, Google home speaker and various chargers back in. But ive hung up the pictures that have sat behind my desk since I decorated. Put up my dragon sconce (haven't found my battery power pillar candle yet) and rewired my KVM etc. My laptop (work) is off but my PC (play) is on.. and naturally I'm playing Minecraft to chill out.

#AuDHD / #autistic tidying.. Day #2 I've been avoiding coming back into the office. I was having restless sleep and anxiety dreams last night about finishing tidying up my office. It's clean, just untidy. I'm a bit of a hoarder ( i mean I found a box of Iomega Zip disks and a USB drive to read them as well as my palm Vx and HP ipaq!!) So i have a LOT of clutter. But I opened the office door to this and shuddered, closed the door again immediately had to go do some really important breakfast clear up instead. (Anything to face the issue directly ahead of me)

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world where's the option for "in a box, in the attic" ? Why keep it separate from my other accolades? I don't hold awards in any level of regard. I don't care what others think of me as long as I'm happy with my own work. And therein lies the rub as I very rarely am ! Even my university qualifications and certificates are in some random storage box. I went to uni to learn new interesting things. The actual qualifications were secondary to that and of more interest to others ie employers.

@jalefkowit well.. all publishers? I'm unsure. I tend to rarely buy mine from Amazon (and I have several 1000 .. about 3500 at last count) but i get most of mine from specialist online shops like the BFI. Or, since I'm in London from shops like Fopp or HMV. Occasionally I'll use something like https://www.find-dvd.co.uk/ if i'm looking for something specific. Unfortunately it usually it ends up recommending Amazon :( and, of course, not much use if you're not in UK. I used to buy a lot from Amazon..especially Amazon US and Amazon.JP for a lot of my imports but I haven't done so in a while.

@401matthall @ainmosni my sentiments exactly.. like a cookbook author writing not about the flavour profiles or textures but "The Volume". To me it smacks of least effort work. Writers craft articles, AI/LLM spews content. It's the whole "Never mind the quality.. feel the width!" thing all over again!

@cstross@wandering.shop I get that, I lived in Aberdeen for 15 years. Loved the long summer days, hated the long winter nights. Worsened by the fact i used work in a windowless basement office. If I didn't go out at lunchtime I'd end up going to work in the dark, come home in the dark and I'd only see sunlight at the weekend. I now live in London XD

@roselilyqueen@mstdn.ca there is no algorithm.. YOU are the algorithm. You need to find your interest and let others find you. Fill in your profile, sticky a post with introduction and interests. Use hashtags, follow hashtags. Boost posts you like. Liking is just a thumbs up to the writer but still important as it's good feedback. Follow accounts, interact with others. Your feed will fill over time and unlike algorithm run platforms you'll see what's relevant to you.. not what the algorithm wants you to see.

I had an internal interview at my company for a new project. My current project is rolling down and I need to find a new team to join. Was told a project was looking for a senior python developer so arranged a chat/interview with the project director and senior architect. Hmm... Not only is it NOT in my current office location and will need a slightly longer commute into busy Central London, more in the office than my current hybrid working and much more client facing.... ... they are also heavily committed claude/Codex vibe coding. So, er.. no. Just no. It'll not go down well with my personal director that I'll be turning this down but it's just not suitable for me. Senior developer? Senior button pusher more like. #AI #NoToAI #VibeCoding
