Cyclist, Londoner, European, occasional artist, ship-broker, and foodie. Left-wing but no tankie.

Very worried that last generation who will know a healthy earth has already been born. There is no plan b for when we make our planet uninhabitable; so let's not do that.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social#BikeNite #BikeTooter A8 I saw a family of Wild Boar 🐗. They looked just like they should (IE like the Asterix books). Missed the photo. Also did a proper night ride (starting at midnight) after a ferry delay made me miss last train from South coast to London. Very interesting and mind expanding experience. To be recommended. Also was in Southern Europe for heatwave. Below was the direct sunlight temperature - the shade temperature given by meteofrance was 41

  1. Provide factual research reports to business owners which overwhelmingly show that store footfall (both casual and regular) increase when multimodal (especially walking cycling) transport is privileged over car based

  2. Info packs to all business owners about cycle specific infrastructure. Both for their own premises (IE wheel bender racks are very much not preferred) and the space outside (encroaching onto paths is a big no)

@markn@mastodonapp.uk @ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social It was rideable at a "social pace". Fast and hard would have been dangerous. And if there had been traffic / traffic lights etc then overheating would have been likely . But the area I was in was deserted and fairly flat so wind cooling on a gentle ride made it bearable for short rides to the boulangerie. Seriously tiring though and heart BPM immediately into the top zone

Two litres in a bag underneath front of top tube. Tube and bite valve clipped to bars ( or would round aero skis). Can still fit one 650 and one 950 bottle on racks. I tend to put flavoured/isotonic in bottles and plain water in bladder Sportpursuit had them for only a ridiculously high price rather than the normal high street exorbitantly gouging price.

In addition: lots of the excess movement the extra power might generate is sideways, bending, and twisting - not so much up and down. You are trying to keep hips steady and flat so the huge muscles of the leg, core, and bum can work efficiently It's also psychosomatic like gritting one's teeth (don't do this either). Everything that can be relaxed must be relaxed - so much easier that way

About to head off to the Loire Valley which is home to a fair proportion of the world's great castles. Lots of gravel biking and gawping at the magnificent remains of decadence and excess A1a. Lots of yellow bikes on the routes of the Tour de France as Sam mentioned. Lots faded now but still a nice reminder of best grand depart ever

I like and appreciate the new Bansky

Lots of the press photos don't show that the figure is stepping off the edge blinded by his flag.

It's in a row with lots of vainglorious monuments to war and fighters.

The cassette, derailleurs, and chain ring stay clean. I used motorcycle racing wax which is sold as with added solid particulate lube and is a fraction of the same stuff sold for push bikes #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes

@Dendrobatus_Azureus@mastodon.bsd.cafe One of my pet peeves with "cycling PPE for feet" is that the sizing just seems to be made up. As they are far and away the most expensive shoes I buy I would have appreciated it if they could actually get their sizes to be consistent. Even within one company the sizing varies between road and MTB.

@nick@biketoot.com I should say I don't think it's overt / conscious racism as I really don't believe Rob Hatch is like that (he strikes me as very right-on and liberal). And apropos of nothing those Look bikes that Cofidis are riding are just works of art - possibly even prettier than the Lidl-Trek Madones.

I find drivers go to one extreme ( I suppose it's the two sides of the adrenalin boost manifesting) either, very aggressive and denying, or very apologetic and more scared/freaked than the cyclist. Especially for minor thing. For major accidents another set of imperatives kicks in

But I think climate change has fundamentally altered our summers so that might not happen into the future

@ravenbait@mastodon.scot As long as you don't need ends to be hugely load bearing - I use old brake / gear cable and crimp on a male and female electrical connector. For waxing a chain I use a jumbo paper clip straightened out with a closed loop at one end and a hook at other. I feed every twelfth (? Never counted) link over hook and end up with a square of back and forth chain. I then just hang with twine tied round both loop and hook

Unless I have got the wrong end of the stick we could say the same for UK Sports guarantee of a basic income and support for its track cyclists in early years of this century. A sport which was very difficult to make a living from but required a serious percentage of one's time. They provided long term income and training without needing to have a "real job" . @kat one of the coverages of a long clsssic a while back (like today) when they had a current sports director he was asked in a lull why comprehensively dropped rider would carry on. I think it was Matt White who explained that; at this time of year the top riders training/racing time is so tightly scheduled that missing a 250km ride will have ramifications into the future - IE there is no spare day before the Giro to fit in an unplanned really big day without massive reorganization.
