mastodon 4.8.0-nightly.2026-10-06I am a Green Party councillor for #Sydenham, #Lewisham
Also enjoy #cycling, #music, #film, #craftBeer, #ListeningClub and a lot of other things!
Part of the Geordie diaspora in London
"Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind"
Bit of an announcement: I am standing for election to #Lewisham Council in #LondonUK this May for the #GreenParty in the ward of #Sydenham
I've changed my bio to include an imprint which is required by UK electoral law.
I'll still be posting about music and cycling as well as election-related stuff but got to be compliant!
And this is why #ReformUK are not a suitable party to govern the UK: we have a national health service, pensions, and welfare benefits all paid for by the state, on top of all the other things normally funded by the state. These are not commitments compatible with a low-tax economy.
We should be happy to pay more in tax for these wonderful collective goods.
Re-visiting an old #ListeningClub vortex from a couple of years ago, and by gosh it's good.
This reminds me a bit of a Sheffield-born singer, not the very famous one, but I'm 99% sure it isn't them
I see what @david@social.jazzbutcher.com meant about the lyrical stylings of this one
Edit: fixing my @
What else this reminds me a bit of: early Four Tet
I have to say this is very much working for me, and I did not fully expect it to tbh
Time to put the needle 'pon the record
*runs in breathlessly* Sorry I'm late, #ListeningClub what've I missed?
This one is very lovely indeed
#godspeedyoublackemperor absolutely mesmerising at #LondonUk #Troxy tonight - never seen anything like this at that scale. Extraordinarily controlled slow-moving but visceral music. Blimey.
Good lyrics on this
Ooh, crunchy
Went to doctor the other day regarding a medical issue, and when I raised #HRV as a possibly salient metric they had never heard of it and didn’t know what I was talking about, so there’s that, sports fans.
To my ears there's something slightly odd about the production, I can't put my finger on it. Sort of slightly muffled maybe. Or perhaps it's just my bluetooth speaker, maybe I should've gone for headphones
Quickly over, might have to play it again #ListeningClub
Far-right w*nkers harassing #HannahSpencerMP at a rally in #ManchesterUK just showing the psychosis-level obsession generated by TERFs banging on about “what is a woman “. On #IWD too. Absolute fckery.
I try not to be a reply guy. I don't, in general, find microblogging sites to be good places for detailed debate. You rarely get someone saying "that's a good point" in response to anything, and people do have a hankering to have The Last Word. So it seems a bit pointless and I only do it when I'm feeling pretty strongly that a falsehood needs to be challenged or a productive point needs to be reinforced, for the benefit of readers, usually, not participants.
Bloatware
Enjoyed this #EarthDay essay from Andrew Boyd in #TheGuardian
We need an eco-masculinity to counter the effort to associate maleness with fossil fuels. Particularly liked the religious aspect of favouring energy from the blessed heavens (solar, wind) over hellfire from below (oil, coal)

Listening to Ride’s 1990 album Nowhere and wishing I was 19 years old and watching them play Glastonbury in a sunny field
I just made a donation towards the #GreenParty Crowdfunder to elect a Mayor of #Lewisham in the May 2026 local elections
