@benroyce@mastodon.social I'm old enough to remember the oil crisis in the US back in 1973 (and '79, the internet reminds me). If our gov't (and everyone else's) had gotten its act together and made the shift back then (because this will have to be a national project to actually work), or at least started to, how different the world would be now. *sigh*

It's turned into a gloomy day--brainwise. I think it's just everything. Some days it's just hard, you know?
Good Supreme Court news tonight, though, so that's a positive.
Husband experimented smoking corned beef today. Looking forward to trying the result tomorrow. The smoked chicken he did on Saturday was fabulous.
And our furnace is in better shape than it was, so yay for that. (as long as we don't catch anything ;)
Good night, friends. Sleep well. ❤️

Happy it's Friday. Husband cooked some shrimp and red bell pepper up with a Knorr side for dinner and it was delicious.
Pre-ordered #CaitlinDoughty's new book Dead in the Water. That'll be a nice surprise when it show up in April.
Three-day weekend as I have a dr's appt on Monday. The appt is just a followup, so nothing to worry about.
Good night, friends. Sleep well. ❤️

The furnace guys have been here since about 12:30 working in the basement. They found another project while they were here and just keep staying. And breathing!
I'm upstairs hiding and trying to work. And not freak out about the strangers in my house.
Hopefully, they're not contagious with anything. Yeesh.

It was a much nicer day today and the air's supposed to stay clear tomorrow, so yay for that.
I think I've picked the #TerryPratchett books I want to share w/my friend. For sure: Equal Rites and The Wee Free Men. Debating about: Hogfather. It's probably my fave Discworld book, if I had to pick one, but is it suitable for someone who's never read one before? Pondering.
Good night, friends. Sleep well. ❤️

I changed dentists at the start of COVID 'cuz my dentist went off the deep end regarding vaccines and alternative treatments. Found a much saner doc just down the road.
I stayed on the old one's newsletter for the laughs, tho. She has a new 4-mth wellness program w/all kinds of goodies: castor oil packs, mitochrondial support (bio-active carbon!), coffee enemas, you name it.
Lordy. 🤦🏻♀️

I'm in the midst of rereading #TerryPratchett's Thief of Time. It's one of my favorites. Lu-Tze is yet another good character. Susan is back helping Death save the world again, and we meet the forgotten fifth horseman of the apocalypse, whose alias Sir Terry came up with w/o realizing what it sounded like backward. Plus Igor.
It's complicated, which is one of the things I like about it. Definitely not one I'd recommend to a newbie unless they dig a action/philosophical/chaos theory read. :)

@fringemagnet@sunny.garden Same here. Death and Granny are the best!
I'm also fond of the scene where he's confronting the Auditors. "Have you been naughty or nice?"

@fringemagnet@sunny.garden That is a wonderful image! And I love Death! As odd as that sounds. Pratchett being able to make Death into a complex character who we care about is pretty amazing. Also, naming his horse Binky is just the chef's kiss.

Looking at the #Vivaldi browser & am intrigued by the email client option. I use #Zoho right now. Could Vivaldi replace that? Can this email client work with #Thunderbird?

Tonight's #movie was 1940's They Drive By Night. Noir trucker movie directed by Raoul Walsh and starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, and Humphrey Bogart. Definitely of its time, but it hit the spot. Alan Hale Sr was in it, too, reminding me a lot of his son. :)

@fesshole@mastodon.social I'm guessing there's no actual law in the UK that says you have to be buried with clothes. Once again, here's a funeral director pretending they have more power than they actually do.

The smoked corned beef started out as a disaster, as it was just too tough to eat for breakfast this morning. However, Husband threw it in the Instant Pot for several hours today, and, according to him, it is now tender and way better. Looking forward to take two. :)

Tonight's #movie was probably our favorite #CinematicTitanic riff Alien Factor. So bad and yet so funny. #DonDohler's filmmaking debut. And yet he kept making more, much to our delight.

Wow. We tried to watch a #BrandonTenold review on yt last night, but there were password issues ( I had forgotten what it was for this account). Got logged in this morning & was confronted with the age verification thing. Instead of just clicking "yes, I'm old, open the damned video", #Google now wants this: gov't-issued ID, a selfie, or a credit card. Nope. Not gonna happen.

" As Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people restarted ... in 2023, they also restarted bombing campaigns in Lebanon. On June 4th of this year, Israeli forces dropped a bomb on Khalil and Fayed’s home. Despite its “protected status.” Despite its bright orange paint you could see from space. Despite the fact that Hezbollah was nowhere near the house. The IDF claimed she wasn’t a target, and they weren’t aware of a bomb hitting her house, but admitted that yes, they did drop some bombs there."

Thinking of a convo I was having w/a friend, the thing abt #MitchMcConnell that might anger me the most are the reporters who aren't doing their jobs. They should be hounding his staff and the people working wherever he's supposed to be hiding. Or where they're hiding his corpse. It's ridiculous how long this has gone on. Instead we get insightful articles about how "conspiracy theories" aren't helpful and we should respect his privacy. Infantalizing & gaslighting us instead of real journalism.
