He/him; I've worked in every single field on IT in my journey to discover which I enjoy spending 40 hours a week the most.
Turns out is working as a 1st level tech support, telling people that IT is a tool, as is a pen or a notebook, and is ok to not understand it sometimes... they have another job. To understand IT and fix it is mine :)

@thepurpleoctopus@lgbtqia.space And ethics, I work as an IT support for an important school who does, among other things, famous digital arts courses. I've seen how interested teachers are to jump the AI wagon in order to not be left behind, I haven't seen any who even thinks about the ethical issues of it all. It's depressing to be honest.

@CuratedHackerNews Years ago I was starting to hate the IT world. Turns out it was just burnout, decided to switch to just first line support, with zero responsibilities, and I couldn't be happier. Of course I won't earn as a sys admin or as a programmer, but the peaceful life cannot be paid. I love IT, and I rather change jobs than do something that makes me hate it. P.S. LLMs and Gen AI are the asbestos of the IT world, and I can't wait for the day everyone sees it and moves to despise it

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I've started shaming people who uses any AI products with a "you know you had part on this, right? If people didn't used it, they wouldn't feel the need to construct more data centers and thus making the problem worse" Doesn't work much, but makes some of them think a bit.

@Sempf In order to get a electronic (digital) certificate, the catalan government decided that it would send a WhatsApp message, nit an SMS, a WhatsApp message. Governments giving their systems to private companies; absolutely mind-blowing and stupid.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social I have to admit that I liked Pascal more than C. It came more naturally to me. And I had to learn them all (C, C++, COBOL, Clipper, Java, Visual Basic) but, as off today, Pascal/Delphi is still the one I am more comfortable with, although Python is fun!

@rebeccawatson To me, the main problem is the gullible people for whom they're doing all this. The "see, they arrested him, they wouldn't do that without reason" people. In the current world, being ignorant is a choice, so yes... I blame them cause their vote affected not only the US, but the whole world.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social That is absolutely dystopian. Why!? What do they expect to do with ALL that processing power? Just so people can also imagine. A full rack is more or less as big as a fridge, with one of those you can manage EVERYTHING of a 1200 people company. Mail, file servers, and all the necessary services. How many full racks do you think you can fit there? I cannot even imagine why would you need all of that.

@moss@kind.social I've been ready for years, as I used to say "I cannot make a revolution with my cat and my dog, I'm going to need you all to get up and do something" But alas, as history has shown, humans are lazy creatures, and sadly we can overcome so much, it gets really bad before we've had enough. So I just wait for everyone who called me a radical to start radicalising.

@stux I recently did a python script that took me three times what I thought it would, but since it's been a couple years since I did any programming at all, I know that happens. Still, I enjoyed the struggle and relearned stuff, as a bonus I had that satisfaction of seeing it do precisely what I wanted with as few lines as possible. As I read somewhere here in the fedi, knowledge requires friction in order to be absorbed.

Instead of, you know, investing resources in respecting both the procedyand the wellbeing of everyone involved. You could have someone accompanying them to verify the status, but no!! Let's fuck over a parent and their kid.

@bruces I don't agree between choosing between valuing terrestrial life and space exploration. Imhi, both are interlinked As in, instead of mining and destroying our planet, we should find asteroids with the necessary materials and get those If we worked towards doing stuff in space, instead of inside our planet, we could surely have both P.S. Before the "is expensive" crowd comes in, that's because we currently don't calculate the ecological impact in the expenses. We throw that to the future

@adactio@mastodon.social As someone from Spain - where in theory is illegal to not carry your national ID, courtesy of the dictatorship years - it's enlightening to read all this. But then again, the id is quite easy to get and not expensive at all. And yes, we need to show it when voting, but we also get a mail beforehand telling us which building and table to go. You cannot vote in person in other places.

I mean, democracy is the system by which we give some power to others so they can make decisions for the good of everyone in our society. If they are not, we should be able to remove them. Yeah, I know, I'm an idealistic person.and I also know most people get into politics to get rich. Still, I think we should have a way of kicking them out.
