I love how in The Odyssey film Telemachus has a mentor whose name is Mentor and I thought "how literal", only to discover that it is his actual name in the Homeric poem and our mentors are named after him.

The thing I really hate about culture wars is when people start deciding whether they like things based on ideological positions rather than whether they like them. Is The Odyssey good because it annoys the Musk bros or is it bad because a woman who translated the poem said she didn't like it?

New music includes concerts by the Unthanks (in Belfast), Focus and Jon Spencer (minus the Blues Explosion), as well as the next Kaleidoscope Night and full New Music Dublin programme.
Newly added films inculde Butterfield 8, Persepolis, The Warriors, The Killer, Hard Boiled, Rave Culture, Mimic, Creep and Akira, as well as an Alan Gilsenan retrospective and a screening of The Ballad of Wallis Island followed by chitchat with its writer.

@stancarey my mother thought me to hate it and I've stuck with that ever since. But it just sounds wrong in a way that "aren't" "don't" and "doesn't" do not. I think it might be because it adds a short vowel before n't (although "doesn't" also does that.

I've seen more than no stories now about AI written short stories winning competitions, and the thing I find myself wondering is whether gen AI has got a lot better or these were pretty dopey competitions.
Might this be the crime of attempted murder?
