Okay, #bookstodon, I'm in the mood for a good space opera.
Bonus points for authors who are not straight white cishet men like me.
Relatively recent is good.
It would be interesting to read about characters who don't fully agree on goals working together to solve a problem.
I like a plot that moves along and proactive characters.
Whatcha got?

Finished two excellent books lately:
Make: Electronics by Charles Platt
Life After Cars by the hosts of @TheWarOnCars@mastodon.social

In addition to marching in the streets today, please write your representative and ask for impeachment. Yes, conviction would require several Republicans to grow spines, but at the very least it should be mentioned in every media interview to shift the Overton window.

About once a decade I decide to try reading literary fiction.
Invariably, it turns out to be a tale of unlikable, broken characters, tormented by fate and human decisions, fecklessly wallowing in their suffering for hundreds of pages.
Give me genre fiction any day.

Getting ready to run D&D for my 11-year-old nieces in a couple of weeks. I'm not overpreparing, am I?
A #ttrpg should provide the GM with the things that are hard to make up on the spot (and tools to make improvisation easier). Interesting maps! Random tables! Trivial encounter generation!
Councilor Steve Novick is spot on: the Portland Clean Energy Fund should be spent on transportation. Make buses frequent, reliable, and electric! Buy an e-bike for anyone brave enough to ride one!
The US federal government is collapsing, but local governments are alive and well. Help steer yours.

The first two (pro-genAI) talks at #axecon were not well-received, but @annaecook@mastodon.social knocked it out of the park.

I just did a full Grandpa Travolta, turning 360 degrees in the kitchen trying to remember what I was doing.
I'm enjoying the Ologies podcast. I'd pay to subscribe to an ad-free tier, but it doesn't look like she has one.
Finished listening to the audiobook of A City on Mars by Kelly and @ZachWeinersmith@mastodon.social. It's entertaining and informative, even if it is a cold shower of space realism that makes The Expanse look like The Jetsons.
Brittany Pressley does an excellent job reading it, bringing consistent energy, enunciating clearly, and conveying the authors' saucy sense of humor.

@futurebird Have you seen Orphan Black? Not quite the same thing, but related (and extremely well done).

I wonder how the scam works. Are they hoping to stumble across someone who happened to write something with that title? Someone who can't remember that they didn't? Someone who is willing to claim they did, for dueling grifts?
