Now that the path is open again it’s time for the NCC to tear down the Alexandra bridge and leave us without a nice crossing for ottbike and ottwalk for a generation. All to save the couple million a year in maintenance costs and spend a billion dollars on concrete when what we actually need is the kettle island bridge built. #ottpoli

If surveillance pricing is necessary for your business a/ fuck you; and b/ we should also ban loyalty/points programs entirely and cap credit card fees at 0.4%.

Downside of summer swim lessons. Sundays ruined with scheduling conflicts all over. Upside only 3 registered and only bear turned up today so it’s a 1:1 class today and we’ll stick around for the public swim right after. #ottawa

Even if she’s (ineffectively) attacking a fascist shit she shouldn’t be in the news. And John fucking Baird? Fuck. Right off. His attacks on the city and democracy have left a 6 story scar looming over Dow’s lake and set back projects from the interprovincial bridge to LRT back by years. Again. Do not talk to these idiots.

This article is not about the irrational valuations of the big Canadian banks. Or their monopoly and how it harms Canadians. It’s a love letter to share buyback programs that should be illegal since they manipulate the stock price and divert funds from real work

This bill is pushed by the worst people alive. Either so naive for it to be surprising they can walk setting us up for data breaches that harm millions or viciously cynical people looking for fascist surveillance on the population. Neither is acceptable. Neither should be in power. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/federal-officials-on-the-defensive-as-momentum-grows-against-lawful-access-bill-9.7206179 #cdnpoli

Federal officials on the defensive as momentum grows against lawful access bill | CBC News

Canada's spy agency says its ability to keep pace with threats and contribute to intelligence alliances will be at risk if the government's latest attempt to pass a lawful access bill fails — a warning that comes as momentum against the Liberals' Bill C-22 grows.

Suckcliffe should have to answer at every door (like he’s going to visit people who don’t pay $1500 to hang out in a developer’s back yard) that giving half a billion to OSEG wasn’t in his platform and then he rammed it through. #ottpoli

Dug into the HTML on TechCrunch’s website and was able to add a blocking rule in StopTheMadness Pro which blocks a pile of crappy mystery things on the web. Earning its keep. They actually went for it and embed the anti ad blocking stuff into the initial HTML payload. Not blockable by domain.

Sonos App Currently Unavailable on iOS and Mac App Stores [Updated]

The Sonos app is currently unavailable to download on the iPhone and Mac App Stores owing to a mysterious problem that the company is currently looking into. The app disappeared as of about two hours ago, and the app's URL link currently throws up the message: "The page you're looking for can't be found," while a manual search in the App Store returns no results.

Grok AI Voice Mode Arrives on Apple CarPlay

SpaceXAI has released Grok Voice mode for Apple CarPlay, allowing CarPlay users to ask the chatbot questions and make requests directly from their vehicle dashboard, handsfree. Previously, Grok for iPhone displayed a placeholder app in CarPlay saying the handsfree support would be coming soon. Grok comes built-in on Tesla vehicles, but now almost any other car can access it.

Microsoft’s capacity issues have meant on again off again issues for me with VM allocation in Canada central. How long are we to run like this before it’s cheaper to just use on-premises resources rather than cloud. #Microslop #Azure

@mikepmoffatt@mastodon.social the plan seems to be to absorb units so crappy they can’t be sold but also at prices that are high. If the market was interested in these and developers were sure they wouldn’t get bailed out then prices would come down. The Feds are certain to overpay. If these were being purchased closer to, say 2004 prices per square foot then maybe we could talk about it. There’s also precious little information and they keep taking about weird schemes with private lenders. It all just screams neoliberal giveaway.

@jwz@mastodon.social Cloudfront might be your best way. It’s a proxy and cache for reasonable cost (my old job had a fairly large government website behind it and it was in the $300/month range.) CloudFront can block by geographic region even without using their WAF. With some testing you can probably run without fancy logging etc. The cache can be turned off or very short if you want mostly live hits on the server. It passes the original IP through in the X-Forwarded-For headed for your Apache logging.
