If our new mayor and city administration are truly serious about bike lane “safety” start with the low hanging fruit:
• Safe detours around construction in the lanes
• Stop bin collectors throwing the bins in the cycle lanes to create obstructions
• Ticket cars blocking bike lanes
I’m still trying to keep an open mind about this bike lane review nonesense, but it's hard when there's no review of the other 98% of road infrastructure which benefits motorists.
It all smacks of culture war bulls**t.
📖 “Toronto's underground labyrinth”
I do like the idea of referring to these underground networks as “pedestrian metros”. I think the few cities which have them are all the better for it, even though they’re flawed in many ways.

Pothole “Centres of Excellence”.
Joking aside, bringing pothole repair in house instead of contracting it out seem like… a good idea?
Before and after.
Interestingly it doesn’t seem to be standard markdown. Usually asterisk and underscore are interchangeable, but in this case an underscore will result in underlined text.
Also editing the post in @ivory@tapbots.social seems to lose the markdown formatting.
But it does work!
📖 “How far back in time can you understand English?”
I’m clearly going to need to set a lower limit on my Time Machine, lest I’m completely unable to communicate with anyone.

Brief shoutout to a thing which is common in UK suburbs but seems rare in Canadian ones, and that is public footpaths connecting cul-de-sacs.
The difference these make to a walkable suburb versus one which makes you take long detours on foot is really underrated.
I’m looking for some advice: What’s the best protocol to use for sharing files on a Linux box with Macs? (I’m thinking of using the Finder, rather than something like rsync)
I’ve been told AFP is no longer well supported by Macs, but that SMB can also cause issues.
🗻 Apparently today is Mount Fuji day, so to celebrate here’s a photo I once took from the Shinkansen, circa 2009 I think.
I remember it took several attempts to get a day where it was actually visible, even from this close.
“Shy mountain” indeed.

Brexit not sounding like such a good idea now, is it?

📖 “30 seconds to midnight? 15?”
Well, this isn’t at all terrifying
I think the nightmare scenario has always been Skynet (I.e. Allowing AI unmonitored control of weapons), and it looks like that’s where the idiots want to take us.

📺 “THIS is how you make trains accessible for everyone”
Been a while since I’ve been out on the Greater Anglia network, but these trains look fab.
(Ottawa has trains from the same family I believe, although I’ve not yet ridden those either)
Relatively speaking I’ve enjoyed ⃰ this winter, but I’m so ready for it to be over now. Let’s hope this is the last snowfall until Christmas.

⃰ Translation: I’ve not hated it nearly as much as usual.

@jfmezei@mstdn.ca Makes sense. By that logic (I.e.: Physics) the display should probably show:
- Deux Montagnes: ∞ minutes
- Deux Montagnes: ∞ minutes E
- Cote-de-Liesse: ∞ minutes
They should so hire me.
