I got annoyed with the infighting between instances I want to follow people on, and was annoyed by others having the power to decide who I should and should not interact with. So now I self host.

<3 C, Unix, shell scripting, old electronics, emacs, & old cute cars. Nearly 30.
Current obsessions include Bubblegum Crisis, the NEC PC-9801, Homestuck, and basically any old computer I can get my hands on.
I also draw pixel art of varying quality. I have very strong opinions, but also don't especially want to force them on others. Moreso I am interested in loudly voicing those opinions in case it helps someone to change how they see the world.
I take an interest in justice, holding particular fascination for ORCHESTRATING THE DEMISE OF THE WICKED. I will sometimes post politics but I try to put it in content warnings unless it's some surreal silly take on politics with few or no ties to reality.
I want to be genuine and connect with others empathetically, bidirectionally; we need more of that and to assume good faith more easily. I still am strongly opinionated though, so I'm sorry if I don't always live up to my own expectations. It's okay to remind me about this if you think I need it.
I'm some kind of non-binary-ish trans-feminine (mostly sheltering under that label, to be honest), but I'm not too worried about the specifics of my identity. I am me… whatever that means to you.If you want to call me a guy or something, then by all means do so unless/until i ask you to stop. I'm starting to near that point I think, but I'm not sure when I'll cross it. :p
LMK if I should CW something or act differently, I want to be considerate and friendly but I don't always know what upsets everyone…

Things I HATE:
- People who embrace evil things made by evil companies for evil purposes and try to excuse what they are doing as somehow acceptable. If you can acknowledge your own faults I will not hold it against you anywhere near as much and will sympathize with you much more.
- The military industrial complex
- Microsoft, Amazon, every tech company that has disenfranchised me and made it clear I am neither welcome nor wanted.
- Apple Inc., who made it clear from the start that I would never be wanted or welcome
- Asahi Linux
- Authoritarians
- Majority rule (aka the subjugation and imprisonment of minorities)
- Quite a bit of other stuff
My opinions tend to be very forceful but they can change and occasionally do. I thought homestuck fans were bizarre and now I am one. I thought I couldn't understand trans people (although I never, ever wanted anything but happiness for them) and now I am one and loving it!
Anything's possible, but it might take time for my views on things to change. Sometimes I do discover I am so dramatically wrong on something that I make an instant U-turn but that's not guaranteed to happen on everything I'm wrong about.

I have a way to transfer disk images to a 1581 drive (which I also have) and from there to my 486 PC.

i'll just keep hoping someone recreates floppy disks some day. i know there's a lot of stuff involved, especially with the actual magnetic materials and putting them on a cookie (the disc inside the caddy itself), but it feels like it should be conceivable in a world where people still make cassette tapes and someone is manufacturing nixie tubes again. it shouldn't be as hard as getting CRT manufacturing going again would be.

when you move a directory you're cd'ed into to another partition and create a symlink in the original location so you have to do
cd "$PWD" to fix your existing sessions

Even the "high quality" one doesn't sound exactly like a hardware SC-55 though, the real SC-55 does some additional effects on top of the samples that the windows software synth and timidity don't do

I'd really rather it go to someone living in the margins. or i'd just try to flip it on ebay
a lot of us were born too late to get to experience them and didn't get a chance to pick them up for cheap either, so I'd really like for it to go to someone like me, someone who's been excluded from these kinds of computers by socioeconomic forces and going up against IT people with a lot of money to burn whenever they show up on ebay.
