this is huuuuugeeee!
Also: one could wonder is this a slight push that will make KDE Linux ax "European OS"? Considering that KDE as an org is already located in EU/Germany and now this fund from @sovtechfund@mastodon.social (for interoperablecommunication needs mostly it seems) and broader push to have sovereign solutions...
Pieces seems to start falling into places 🫣
my sympathy / empathy for the UK is zero at this point.... it's not that it wa a "one time accident". it's a chain of dumb decision and each subsequent one being dumber than the previous...
hearing constant whining about AI is getting more annoying that the AI itself...
pondering which #Linux distribution select for my nephew (he got fed up with windows) and I'm hesitant between #Bazzite and #CachyOS ... both are geared towards "gamers". The latter seems to be more similar to #SteamOS (also based on arch) and the former seems to be more stability oriented (based on immutable #Fedora).
Somewhat leaning towards Bazzite considering I'm not here if anything happens, he is new to Linux and Bazzite is immutable so it should be easier to recover ...
thoughts?
my biggest gripe with LLM (and it's generated content) is the absurd amount of it...
if a human have to write some text (or email), save for a very prolific individuals, most of the time the result would be succinct and to the point thus saving time for both the writer and the reader...
with LLMs "sky is the limit" so we end up having to deal with wall of text that probably neither the person responsible for the prompt has read...
we are (or will be shortly) drawing in words...
(I do use AI for some tasks, but mostly for researching some ideas as a "soundboard"... I draw the lone when someone sends me a wall of generated "content" as it's basically a huge middle finger towards me)
@benpate@mastodon.social uhm... interesting BUT:
"Iovine argues that DSPs have completely failed to become “cultural hangars” where artists and fans can actually interact.
"It's one-dimensional. It's an ATM machine. You put your money in, you get your music," Iovine stated. "They don't do anything for the artist. The artist wants to communicate with their fans, period... and the streaming services are still saying, 'We'll put you on our list if you're nice to us.' That's bullshit.""
I love (well, loved?) music, love going to the concert but at no point in past decade I felt the need to interact with the artist...
great write up by Filip Fila
"Lex Matysiak. What e-signatures on citizens’ initiatives could change
Paulina Matysiak’s bill proposes the electronic collection of signatures for citizens’ legislative initiatives. It has been endorsed by politicians from Polska 2050, Razem, PiS, and Konfederacja, as well as independent members of parliament. The change may seem minor at first glance—but in practice, it is revolutionary. What will the Civic Coalition and the New Left do?"
Great initiative! Starting next year it will already be possible to back candidates in elections with e-signatures (there are rules that each cadidate has to have minimum amount of signatures). This evolves it to all popular initiatives that requires 100k signatures and collecting them with pen&paper was huge PITA. This will hopefully change in the future 💪
